About this deal

I struggled to cope with everyday life, was often too depressed to work, and I hated myself for not being able to function like a “normal” human being.

I even Took pics of certain pages and read them all day everyday when a bad day shows it’s face in the middle of feeling better. Explores some of the principles of psychiatric theory and outlines the way to recovery and staying well.

The closest thing I could find was kindasortamaybe just a bit like what the claims in the book were, to the point where I have more than a slight suspicion the "study" anecdote was wildly misrepresented to increase its anecdotal usefulness. Never before have I come across something, or someone for that matter, who could sum up this illness in a way that didn't feel belittling or judgmental.

The central contention of the book is that depressive illness brought on by stress is not a condition that afflicts the weak or disengaged. Psychiatrist Tim Cantopher's book is one of the most motivational self-help books I have read, and has got my 2018 goal to improve my mental health off to a great start.I found this approach, which identified positive as well as harmful aspects of suffers' personality which contribute to depression as empowering. Autor už na úplnom začiatku ničí všetky možné stigmy, ktoré má bežná spoločnosť proti ochoreniu ako je depresia. Depressive Illness: The Curse of the Strong was Dr Cantopher's first, and remains his bestselling, book: his other titles include Toxic People: Dealing with dysfunctional relationships (Sheldon Press, 2017), S tress-Related Illness: Advice for people who give too much (Sheldon Press, 2019) and Overcoming Anxiety: Without Fighting It (Sheldon Press, 2019). The author is clear in recognising the internal strength of character of those who put so much into their lives that their mental health begins to suffer (Cantopher is clear from the start that he is discussing stress-induced depression, rather than depression linked to other life circumstances for which this may be less relevant).

Davis, himself a master at offsetting his chunky 6ft 7in frame by playing fretful softies, has spotted kindred spirits and formed some kind of sitcom supergroup. While I did like this particular doctor's view of depression, I don't think it needed to be 112 pages long. For example, this can include the mother who raises three children, has a full-time job, and is expected to ensure the household runs smoothly. This, of course, is all standard, party-line stuff, and may be a bitter pill - no pun intended - for the sufferer of recurrent unipolar depression and/or dysthymia, for whom anti-depression medication may well offer no relief whatsoever. It is a quick read, which is especially good for those of us who might be having a tough time mustering energy to do much of anything. Depressive Illness – The Curse of the Strong is a best selling book all about depression by Psychiatrist Dr Tim Cantopher.
