About this deal

Eight out of the 12 flavours of Pot Noodle are vegan-friendly as they do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. The remaining four flavours contain milk. Some Pot Noodles are not marked as vegan as they are made in a factory that also produces non-vegan products and there is a potential for cross-contamination. If you love a sneaky Pot Noodle then try my healthier homemade version. So easy to make and perfect for lunch at home for one! You could do a completely vegetarian hot pot, but adding meats requires additional attention to food safety. Always make sure your broth is boiling, and don’t add too many ingredients to the pot at once. This could lower your broth temperature and result in undercooked food. Anyway, I’m not certain why the brand is named “Asian Street Style”, but I’m guessing they’re inspired by the whole ‘authentic’ Asian street food fad that I admittedly buy into as they’re almost always more exciting than plain old Chow Mein. So I go with the Pot Noodle Asian Street Style Thai Red Curry, a staple of Thai cuisine that’s pretty much never found near street food outside of Khao Rad Kaeng curry canteens. But I’m always excited for anything curry, and I’m already thinking of more Thai curry flavours, like panaeng, and massaman, and how awesome could Khao Soi be?

In a small pot, heat the oil until shimmering. Carefully pour the hot oil over the bowl of noodles… But I will go out on a limb here and say these Itsu noodles are homegrown here in the U.K. Firstly, because Itsu doesn’t seem to exist in the instant ramen scene in Japan. But the potentially fictitious Yoshihiro is also said to be from “Nagano Valley” near Tokyo. I have been to Nagano before, the prefecture, the city, the snow monkeys, and Google maps don’t even know where Nagano Valley is. Anyway, they seem to be selling a more upmarket ‘Japanese’ pot noodle experience. “Eat with pride” “Eat beautiful” “Solution for foodies” which seems to be an alternative to slobbing away on a Bombay Badboy.

In high school, I spent the summer in China studying Chinese history, the Mandarin language, and the Uighur language spoken widely in the North Western Chinese province of Xinjiang. Here are the detailed answers to some frequently-searched queries about Pot Noodles, vegans and exactly what’s in them… What are Pot Noodles made of? All your cravings will be satisfied with items from China, Korea, Japan, Thailand and more – explore by country of cuisine to find firm favourites and intriguing delights you’ve never encountered before. But are Pot Noodles suitable for vegetarians and vegans? Read on to find out which you can eat and which you should avoid. Are Pot Noodles vegetarian?

Anyway, the chewy, filling noodles of Ko-Lee are right up my street, the flavours are definitely Asian, and Ko-Lee even include a plastic fork, which is more like a trident, in every pot. So I do suspect they were produced for an Asian market where pot noodles are easily prepared at every convenience store or konbini to eat on the go. Otherwise instant noodles are prepared mainly at home in the UK with kettles/boiling water found right next to the knife and fork drawer. So it feels almost like Ko-Lee have just dumped a load of tasty Asian noodles into European markets and relied on the cheap and cheerful product to sell themselves. Why waste money on regional branding. The Pot Noodle brand is owned by Unilever, a company that sourced 99.6% of its palm oil sustainably in 2019 [ source]. Unilever is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and is working to drive change within the palm oil industry. We know buying authentic Asian food and drink in the UK is not always easy or convenient, especially if you don’t live near an Asian grocery store, which is why our online supermarket delivers everything you need and more straight to your door.King Pot Noodles have the same ingredients as regular Pot Noodles, they’re just larger. Are Pot Noodles vegan? We really enjoyed Lee Kum Kee’s Soup Base for Satay Hot Pot, which had a light seafood flavor and gave everything a rich umami boost.

When fall and winter roll around, one big treat tends to pop into our minds—Chinese hot pot. It’s a warm, comforting, and social meal to have with a close-knit group of family or friends. Plus, because all the food gets cooked at the table, it’s an easy meal to boot. Here’s a close up of the noodles. The supermarket version by Fantastic Noodles is slightly more yellow than it should be but it’s just as tasty. Can’t find Chow Mein Noodles? We have hot pot restaurants here in the U.S. as well, but we find them to be relatively pricey, and the quality varies widely. That’s why we prefer to make our hot pot at home. Equipment Needed to Have Hot Pot at Home Make sure your meats are completely cooked through. After adding raw meat, allow the broth to boil for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute before removing any other items from the pot.Soy sauce (light soy sauce, seasoned soy sauce, and seafood flavored soy sauce are all good options) Chinese Hot Pots are a fun and interactive meal that allows each individual to personalize their bowl with favorite ingredients and spice. And making your own hot pot at home is actually simple and so worth it! You do need some special equipment to have a hot pot meal at home. Let’s start with the essential gear. Necessary Equipment for Hot Pot:

It’s deceptive, how easy it is. You wouldn’t think that such a simple dish could be that amazing, but with good ingredients (your favorite chewy noodle, for instance. We used this flat xi’an style noodle similar to what we used in our Beijing Fried Sauce Noodle recipe), it’s going to win you over big time. For a while, my mom was going on and on about this dish, and how awesome it was. Having never tried it, I made it for the first time last weekend, and it was a serious epiphanic moment. Where have these noodles been all my life? Again I play it safe with Batchelor’s Super Noodle Pot Curry, ‘noodles in a curry flavour seasoning with peas and tomato’. Unfortunately they are worse than I remember, given they’re kind of mushy, and messy, and a bit like baby food. They’re really just not my style of noodles. I prefer a bit of chew in my noodles. And even ground white pepper and dry chilli flakes failed to save them. They’re still good for the saucepan though. Hot pot can be a deeply personalized meal! Each individual can mix their own dipping sauce, and choose exactly what they want to eat. But don’t mind me. Feel free to adjust the quantities of any of the seasonings in this dish to your liking. I myself tend to add way more chili and garlic than is probably advisable. Recipe InstructionsThe broth for this savory Chinese stew can be made a few days in advance, and will certainly develop an even richer flavor as it sits in a sealed container in the fridge. Many offer specialized regional hot pot experiences. There are restaurants specializing in Yunnan hot pot, Sichuan hot pot, Mongolian lamb hot pot, and even Japanese shabu-shabu. However, ‘Lost the Pot’ Noodles and some ‘Asian Street Style’ Pot Noodles are NOT suitable for vegetarians as they contain meat. One of our favorite hot pot chains in China is called Haidilao Hot Pot Restaurant (海底捞火锅), known for their superior service and dancing noodle pullers. Haidilao roughly translates to “scooping the bottom of the ocean,” which is a pretty good metaphor for scooping your ladle through the pot for a fish ball or tofu puff! We enjoyed Lee Kum Kee’s Sesame Sauce, which was a bit thinner than traditional Chinese sesame paste.
