About this deal

Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote of a double in Prometheus Unbound, and later claimed to have seen his own doppelgänger before his death in 1822. His wife Mary Shelley later recalled that Percy had visions of strangling her, and mentioned an episode in which his double approached him. “All this was frightful enough,” she said in a letter to her friend Maria Gisborne, “and talking it over the next morning he told me that he had had many visions lately; he had seen the figure of himself which met him as he walked on the terrace and said to him, ‘How long do you mean to be content?’” Abraham Lincoln reportedly saw his doppelgänger in 1860. The role had originally gone to Gayle Hunnicutt, who quit early in the production after falling ill. [2] This withdrawal led to the casting of Loring, Thinnes' then wife and a star of the TV series The F.B.I. [2] Had she remained in the role, Hunnicutt would have appeared in a nude scene, written in to distinguish Doppelgänger from the Andersons' earlier productions. [10] In a 1968 interview in the Daily Mail, Anderson expressed a desire to change the public's perception of Century 21, saying that his company had been "typecast as makers of children's films". [10] On rumours that the British Board of Film Censors (BBFC) would give the film an X certificate for mature content, he stated that it was Century 21's desire to "work with live artists doing subjects unsuitable for children". [10] The finished film replaced the nude scene with milder shots showing Sharon stepping into and out of a shower. [10] A subplot concerns the Rosses' attempts to have a child and Glenn's discovery that Sharon has been taking birth control pills. [10] The original script described Sharon as the daughter of a United States senator and had her pursue an affair with EUROSEC public relations officer Carlo Monetti. [7] In the finished film, this character, played by Franco De Rosa, is renamed Paulo Landi and appears only briefly; the affair is implied in one scene but not explored further. [10] [14] [15] In a deleted scene, Glenn finds Paolo and Sharon in bed together at the Rosses' villa and throws them both into a swimming pool. [7] a b c Anderson, Martin (15 July 2009). I Think I Found My Beard Doppelgänger

Near the end of Book XI of his autobiography, Dichtung und Wahrheit ("Poetry and Truth") (1811–1833), Goethe wrote, almost in passing: Todd, J; Dewhurst, K. (1962). The Significance of the Doppelgänger (Hallucinatory Double) in Folklore and Neuropsychiatry. Practitioner 188: 377–382.

Using images of 32 sets of doubles from Canadian artist François Brunelle, who has been documenting doppelgangers for years, the team compared the genes — and the behaviours — of unrelated twins around the world. English actor Roger Moore plays a man haunted by a doppelgänger, who springs to life following a near-death experience, in Basil Dearden's The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970). A doppelgänger, often anglicized as doppelganger, is a spirit double or evil twin that looks exactly like you. The German word translates literally as a double goer. According to legend or folklore, if you spot your double, it is an omen of dreadful disease or even possibly death. In modern society, a doppelganger also refers to a person who is very similar to you in the way they look and act. Doppelganger Origin The 2002 MMORPG Ragnarok Online features a boss-type monster named "Doppelganger," a demon who summons Nightmares that looks like a shadow of the default appearance for the male Swordsman class. In Richard Ayoade's The Double (2013), based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel of the same name, a man is troubled by a doppelgänger who is employed at his place of work and affects his personal and professional life.Thompson, Howard (12 November 1969). Prel, Carl du, Die monistische Seelenlehre, Beitrag zur Lösung des Menschenrätsels, Leipzig, Günthers Verlag, 1888.Jorge Luis Borges' The Other (1972) has the author himself find that he's sitting on a bench with his older doppelgänger, and the two have a conversation. Two original 35 mm prints of the film are known to exist. [32] One is kept by the British Film Institute; the other by Fanderson, the official Gerry Anderson fan club. [32] While original prints give top billing to Ian Hendry, Universal's Journey to the... format credits Thinnes first. [7] Some British prints feature an alternative version of the final scene with a short voice-over from Ross, repeating a line of dialogue the character says to Webb earlier in the film: "Jason, we were right. There are definitely two identical planets." [32] The word doppelganger is a loanword from the German noun Doppelgänger, literally meaning double-walker. [a] The singular and plural forms are the same in German, but English writers usually prefer the plural "doppelgangers". In German, there is also a female form, " Doppelgängerin" (plural: " Doppelgängerinnen"). The first known use, in the slightly different form Doppeltgänger, occurs in the novel Siebenkäs (1796) by Jean Paul, in which he explains his newly coined word in a footnote; the word Doppelgänger also appears in the novel, but with a different meaning. [4] The 1969 film Doppelgänger involves a journey to the far side of the sun, where the astronaut finds a counter-earth, a mirror image of home. He surmises his counterpart is at that moment on his Earth in the same predicament. Pratt, Douglas (2005). Doug Pratt's DVD: Movies, Television, Music, Art, Adult and More.
