About this deal

Rub N Buff Wax is made from a unique blend of imported carnauba waxes, fine metallic powders and select pigments. And of course, you’ll need the object you’ll be transforming along with a paper plate, paper towel or any clean surface to blend the Rub ‘n Buff.

This is to protect your hands because Rub n Buff is hard to get off if you get it on your hands. It does come off with dish soap and a stiff brush, though. I used cardboard for my outdoor space for spray painting, and a simple drop cloth for my indoor space while doing the Rub n Buff finish. I knew that antiquing it to a antique brass or “brushed brass” feel would give it a more timeless look – perfect for my home! When you don’t want to disassemble or tape off areas that don’t need to be refinished, such as a light fixture or sconce I think this would work especially well on things like dresser/cabinet hardware, picture frames, or other smaller detailed projects like adding a contrast strip around the edge of a nightstand. I actually found that dabbing and rubbing the product in with my old make up brush did a decent job buffing – but you can use a clean soft cloth to buff your newly finished item until smooth and shiny if it’s not quite to your liking! Sometimes you find that near perfect piece – except it’s not in quite the metallic finish that you’d prefer. Technically, Rub n Buff is not considered permanent. That being said, it is extremely durable and I’ve personally never had it wear off and I’ve used it for cabinet hardware.

When I have not been able to disassemble items in the past, I have found that using painters tape generously, and then cutting off excess pieces with a razor blade or x-acto knife has worked well to get even harder to tape areas looking neat. Step Number Four | Using your old makeup brush, tap and dab a small squirt of the Rub n Buff onto your item(s). It dries immediately, and won’t “spread” very well, so keep tapping and dabbing until it’s covered! What I love about Rub n Buff is that it can literally save you money! If you have an item but you want to change the finish, just use Rub n Buff. Or maybe you can’t find something in the exact finish you want. Well, you can still get it and just change the color.

Tips for Using Rub n Buff

If you’re curious about other possible ways to achieve this same look, the best alternatives I can think of are: I would give the Rub n Buff silver leaf a shot for a subtle vintage look. If you want more of a chrome/metallic newer looking finish, try using a metallic spray paint. I always google the color first to find real life photos before purchasing! Smaller projects – while the tube does last a very long time, working just a small area at a time will take forever if you have a very large project, like furniture Make sure it’s clean and dry. Use painter’s tape to cover any areas that you don’t want to transform.

Rub n Buff Gold Comparison and How-to - Jenna Sue Design

I SO needed this tutorial and color guide!! THANK YOU! New build and plumbing fixtures are champagne bronze – light fixture came and TOTALLY clashes! Plan to use this on light fixture! With your tutorial I think I can do it and it will look great! Don’t let the small tubes throw you off, either. They’re certainly small, but the product really works well even with just a small dab. As they say, “a little bit goes a long way”.You can use a brush if you want, but I prefer my finger so that I can feel how much product is on the piece As a user, what truly makes Rub n Buff unique if you want to create a metallic look, is the nuance and depth of the finish. Unlike paint which can look flat (or sometimes flat with sparkles), Rub n Buff creates the true multi-dimensional look of metal. This is the best part. Rub n Buff can be used on almost any solid surface! This includes plastic, wood, metal, glass, etc.
