At that moment the angel sat up, and the men around him leaped away to widen the circle. Several drew their sidearms; others whispered whatever prayers they could remember. The angel, whose eyes were as blue as the skies over Viet Nam when the monsoon is gone and the sun shines through the washed air, paid almost no attention to them at first. He opened one wing and then the other, and his great wings almost filled the hangar. He exed one arm and then the other, and then he stood up. An amazingly intricate and ambitious first novel - ten years in the making - that puts an engrossing new spin on the traditional haunted-house tale. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is a manga by Hayao Miyazaki that ran off and on in Animagemagazine from February, 1982 to March, 1994 and collected in seven volumes. A theatrical anime based on the first two volumes and directed by Miyazaki was released in March, 1984. The manga does contain a couple of direct similarities that were used in Eva including: The cover of a 1970 edition of Howard Fast's SF anthology The General Zapped an Angel distinctly resembles the appearance of Lilith's head in the final scene of End of Evangelion. According to Wikipedia, 'Fast described the stories as "about the general childishness of man, the only form of life that refuses to grow up."'

Wistful and elegaic, "The Interval" hits differently now that I'm somewhat over fifty years of age and getting so much closer to my own final act.

The Vision of Milty Boil” - 2.5 - A ridiculous story with too much focus on the main character’s past: A short man builds his wealth by developing high rise apartments. He becomes famous for fitting more apartments in a single building by shortening the height of each floor. Officials find this preposterous until they decide there is money here and shortness must be made desirable. A marketing campaign ensues and humanity changes forever. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007): In episode 14, the Gurren-Lagann fires a swarm of drill missiles in a very ideonish fashion.

In Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, Misato's ringtone is in fact the distinctive "laughter" of King Ghidorah, a three-headed space dragon that has been a prolific opponent of Godzilla since its appearance in 1964's Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster. In 1980s Thole experienced an eye disease that compelled him to reduce his work activity and to leave Urania covers to Vicente Segrelles and Oscar Chichoni. His last work for Urania is for N°1330 of 1998: in the meantime, Thole earned a robust fame as one of the greatest European book cover artists. He worked also for French and German publishers. Oh, ho!” snorted Whitcomb. “The Vatican! No discussion, no exchange of opinion—oh, no, just ship it off to the Vatican where it can be hidden in some secret dungeon with any other evidence of God’s divine favor—” Now just what the hell do you mean, you can’t find the wounds? I don’t miss. If I shot it, I shot it.”As a somewhat bizarre ending note, it has been pointed out that the helmet of Dave Bowman's space suit bears some resemblance to Shamshel's head. p.1The sarcasm here is positively Shakespearean—I was reminded specifically of Marc Antony's speech at Julius Caesar's funeral, the one in which Antony repeatedly calls Caesar's assassins "honorable men." Arthur C. Clarke's novel, Childhood's End, which was published in 1953 features a concept similar to Instrumentality. In Childhood's End, a race of devil-like aliens called the Overlords land on Earth and immediately put a stop to all wars, creating a virtual utopia on Earth. Years pass and children start displaying telephathic abilities. The Overlords reveal that their true purpose for arriving at Earth was to prepare humanity for absorbtion into the Overmind, an entity that exists as a hive-mind of consciousnesses from numerous civilizations. As the novel comes to a close, all adults have died off and the telephathic children, all that is left of humanity is absorbed into the Overmind. I am giving The General Zapped an Angel four stars because the stories I liked, I really liked. And I think this book is worth the read solely for those stories alone.

Well, Kelly answered, I don’t quite know how to answer that, sir. An angel is an angel. One of God’s angels, sir.Father O’Malley shook his head in horror, looked at his Protestant colleagues, and then passed over them to the rabbi and said to him: The second episode of the 2007 TV series Masters of Science Fiction, "The Awakening", was adapted from the title story of this book. Get these two mothers the hell out of here, and when you assign a detail to me, I want men, not wet-nosed kids. Then he surveyed the angel, and even he was impressed.

Just how the hell do you know?” demanded General Drummond, loosening his sidearm. “That thing has the strength of a bulldozer.”

An imaginative, strange, and boldly inventive collection of stories from a singular mind, with a new introduction by Mark Harris In The General Zapped an Angel, featuring nine supremely entertaining fantasy and science fiction tales, a Vietnam general shoots down what appears to be an angel; a man sells his soul to the devil for a copy of the next day’s Wall Street Journal; and a group of alien beings bestow a mouse with human thought and emotion Fast, one of the bestselling authors of the twentieth century whose career spanned decades and genres, skewers war hawks, oil speculators, and profit-at-all-costs capitalism with wit and empathy, making these stories as relevant today as when they were first published in 1970. The General Zapped an Angel: New Stories of Fantasy and Science Fiction by Howard Fast – eBook Details In the first episode, the protagonist Hikaru Ichijo inadvertently ends up piloting and crash-landing a variable fighter, destroying in the process the offices of Artland and Studio Nue, the companies that created Macross. In Episode 09 of Evangelion, Asuka's Eva-02 leaps on and demolishes the half-submerged building of Studio Fantasia, one of the animation studios involved in the production of NGE. The devil with this theological nonsense! The plain fact of the matter is that we are standing in front of one of God’s holy angels, which we in our animal-like sinfulness have slain. What penance we must do is more to the point.” Well,” Kelly answered, “I don’t quite know how to answer that, sir. An angel is an angel. One of God’s angels, sir.”
