About this deal

Now we come to The House at the End of the World... This book has finally put me over the edge. I am no longer a Koontz fan. I will not be buying anymore of his books going forward. To be honest, I don't think he is even writing his own books anymore. This is an eminently readable novel that affirms Koontz’s place as an imaginative writer whose storytelling invites consideration of some of the most pressing concerns of contemporary times. This is especially true for Catholic readers who seem to have gained an ally in a writer who talks about grace, hope and simple virtue. Now, I don’t like to let an author’s politics influence how I view a book because I don’t want to be lumped in with the idiots who cry about woke indoctrination because there was a non straight, non white character in a novel. In this case though, I actually felt like I read an entire book about the author’s political views masquerading as a horror novel, so I feel like it’s a valid point to bring up.

Peter Travers of Rolling Stone awarded the film three out of four stars, calling it "funny and heartfelt" and "a small treasure." He added, "Farrell's astutely judged portrayal . . . is a career highlight" and "Stage director Michael Mayer ( Side Man) makes a striking debut in film." [7] Rooney, David (June 21, 2004). Journeying away from the island, Katie and her companion, teenager Libby, must stay offline. So they can't use GPS for navigation. Katie has maps from AAA, and Libby studies them "with a sense of wonder." She says that they "are for those big, bold, pioneering souls who love complexity --- explorers, adventurers, lovers of byways and alternate routes!" Try explaining that to any youngsters these days, and they will stare at you blankly. The beauty of empty spaces and roads leading into them completely befuddles most people, but (as I was delighted to learn) not Koontz. If you enjoy suspense with horror and sci-fi interweaved, I recommend this one! ( gave me some The Drift (CJ Tudor) vibes. *Bonus- you get to meet Michael J Fox 🦊

Nothing about it is conventional. The three-member household is puzzling not only to us, but to its members. We expect conflict, resolution, an ending happy or sad, but what we get is mostly life, muddling through . . . Colin Farrell is astonishing in the movie, not least because the character is such a departure from everything he has done before." [5] The older Koontz became and the older I became, I realized what a truly profound writer Koontz was. He wasn't merely writing books for entertainment, he was writing books that were meant to educate. Scott, A.O. (July 23, 2004). Just then, a man with a gun appears at the top of the stairs. The duo begins to list names of the murder victims before Bill jumps in the way of Darby, just as the man draws the gun. We hear a BANG… At times, the writing is so bleak that you might think Koontz despairs of the human race. Yet at other times, he presents a different view of humanity. He spends paragraphs disparaging those in power who serve government in their quest for even more power and don’t care about truth or justice. He also has nothing but contempt for those who are amoral because of either a defect in their makeup or extremely poor parenting (by the rich or the poor). Yet he believes that half of humanity does have redeeming characteristics. oh sorry, I forgot, they’re fascist because (drumroll)… they want to take muh guns! Get into the bunker guys, the end times are here. For some reason I’ve never read anything of Koontz’s before, but I felt like reading something suspenseful and The House at the End of the World delivered on that. Unfortunately, everything surrounding the suspense was bullshit.

September (derived from the Latin word for “seventh”) was the seventh month of the Roman calendar, but it’s the ninth month of ours. I believe we should call it Nonus (Latin for “ninth”). This will require altering some song lyrics and scrubbing the word “September” from every book ever published. If you’re with me, join the organization I’ve formed—All of Us for Nonus. Question for discussion at this month’s meeting of Nonus chapters nationwide: Should those who refuse to stop saying “September” be sent to reeducation camps? A Home at the End of the World is a 2004 American drama film directed by Michael Mayer from a screenplay by Michael Cunningham, based on Cunningham's 1990 novel of the same name. It stars Colin Farrell, Robin Wright, Dallas Roberts, and Sissy Spacek. The film was cited for Excellence in Filmmaking by the National Board of Review and was nominated for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film in Wide Release but lost to Kinsey. Dallas Roberts was nominated for the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor, and Colin Farrell was nominated for the Irish Film Award for Best Actor.
