About this deal

It only took about 500 years, but iconic amaretto brand Disaronno has its first line extension: Disaronno Velvet, a cream liqueur. Velvet is, put simply, a cream version of standard Disaronno. It has that same brisk and sweet almond aroma that immediately evokes Disaronno liqueur, well-sugared but otherwise straightforwared. The palate comes across as a cross between amaretto and Irish cream — nutty with that boozy almond extract note, but with strong overtones of vanilla and chocolate. Sweet but less sweet than you’d think, the lengthy finish hints at dinner mints. Use this recipe as inspiration for other easy homemade liqueurs. For instance, you could use mint extract and white sugar exclusively to create a mint-flavored liqueur. Is Amarretto a good substitute for creme de noyaux in PINK SQUIRRELS? Creme de noyaux is impossible to obtain here. A liquor distributor here advised “Use Amaretto for pink squirrels instead.”

When served as a beverage, amaretto can be drunk by itself, used as an ingredient to create several popular mixed drinks, or added to coffee. Amaretto is also commonly used in culinary applications. Amaretto is frequently added to desserts, including ice cream, which enhances the flavour of the dessert with almonds and is complementary to the flavour of chocolate. Tiramisu, a popular Italian cake, is often flavoured with either real amaretto or alcohol-free amaretto aroma.

Depending on the brand, it may be made from apricot kernels, bitter almonds, peach stones, or almonds, all of which are natural sources of the benzaldehyde that provides the almond-like flavour of the liqueur. [1] [2] It generally contains 21 to 28 percent alcohol by volume. [3] [4] Amaretto and coffee are the perfect pairing! The amaretto adds a nuttiness and spice to the bitter coffee. Top with frothy whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Rum makes a nice base for homemade amaretto as well. A white rum would be an excellent choice, though you could add dimension to the liqueur's flavor by using an aged rum.

If you notice the flavorings are separating from the liqueur, give the bottle a really good shake to incorporate them. "I Make the Best Amaretto Sour in the World" . Retrieved December 12, 2013.One should not confuse amaretto with amaro, a different family of Italian liqueurs that, while also sweetened, have a stronger bitter flavour derived from herbs. Despite the history of introducing and accepting almonds into Italian cuisine, newer takes on the meanings and origins have been popularized by two major brands. Though of sometimes questionable provenance, these tales hold a sentimental place in Saronno culture:
