I personally feel that not many hobbyists understand the real added value of this series, especially that the company already offers the GO-FIND series and Equinox series! The 600 can be described as the entry level Equinox and uses 3 frequencies. The 800 uses all 5 frequencies promoted with the Multi IQ system. The coil is elliptical and not circular like the Equinox coil which means it can be marginally easier to negotiate through stubble.

All other features are generally like in the 340 model – all purpose multifrequency with several compatible coils and tunable signal and stuff. The system is not rechargeable, and only native headphones fit.

This machine was considered revolutionary as it could detect using a frequency of 15 KHz and 3 KHz. There are 3 volume levels on the Vanquish 340 vs 10 levels on the 440 and 540. Is that a big deal? I don’t think so. It is more adjustment than a Garrett Ace 400i for example, which has no volume control at all!

The coils are of a DD type which make them perform excellently amongst iron and are give fantastic target separation. So if you are not planning on Gold Prospection or underwater detection then any Vanquish model is probably enough … Otherwise, investing in an Equinox model is probably worth it! The Nokta Makro Simplex+ is a great choice but has a higher cost than the Vanquish 340 and only a single frequency. Despite this, the machine performs very well and has more features than the Vanquish 340.

The very first thing to understand about Vanquish detectors is that this series was created for beginner level hunters. Yeah, the machines are equipped with multi-frequency technology, because Minelab made them cool, but they are still targeted at newbies. Business reason: In the last decade Minelab used to introduce to the Market each 2 to 3 years a new series of machines in which they introduce new technologies and features (such us the aptX low latency, Muti-IQ, Iron Bias …) … However, I would be missing a few things that I do make use of. For one the 340 doesn’t have wireless audio so no Bluetooth headphones. The 440 doesn’t have that feature either so if I really wanted wireless audio I would need to go for the most expensive model, the Vanquish 540.Like your own miracle, turning the device off, moving away from the area bombarded by EMI, restarting the device, and waiting for Automatic Noise Cancel should help remove the chatter. If you’ve always wanted to own and use a multi-frequency machine at a lower price tag, then that’s probably the right choice! It appears that Garrett may have the upper advantage for this comparison but not by much. Minelab's tech specs only show the Vanquish 440 and 540 offering a custom and all metal search mode. Once the upgrade is complete, VANQUISH will restart and the MUU will prompt you to disconnect the detector and QUIT the application.

This would be a big consideration if you were focussed on finding gold. I have an article on choosing the best detector for gold here. Manufacturers knew this in the early days and the only way you could do this really was to design a detector where you could change the search coil and thus change the frequency. You know it would only be a Minelab with the Multi-IQ technology. This multi-frequency feature outperforms many metal detectors with a single search frequency and is the ideal budget metal detector.

One of the most curious peculiarities of this Vanquish series is the Multi-IQ technology, that seems to break all the stereotypes and norms about entry-level metal detectors. And this is little surprise, really, since the competitors are literally close on the heels. Nokta Makro, for example, have developed an underwater detector with semi-automatic Ground balance – Nokta Makro Simplex – and this device is meant for beginners!
