When I saw the movie Memento ages ago, I had no idea it was based on a short story. Equally, after finding out that the source material for the movie was a short story, I had also no idea the author and the movie's director were brothers. Both is quite interesting for a number of reasons. The most obvious places to look for memento mori meditations are in funeral art and architecture.
