I hadn't drunk this amaro in about a year or two and after exploring quite a few amaros in the meantime, when I gave this a try again I must say I did not enjoy it as much as I remember it. The label has changed a bit over the years, but one of the newer labels includes an Italian statement directly under "Amaro Siciliano" and above Salvatore Averna's signature. In 1859, as a token of gratitude, fray Girolamo, prior de la Abadía de Santo Spirito gave Salvatore the recipe for the infusion. It is based on the recipe for a herbal elixir Capuchin friars Badiade dela Santo Spirito in Caltanissetta To enjoy the taste Best served at a temperature of about 3 degrees as follows: we take a glass a little amaro, add an ice cube and some mint leaves. Made with a unique combination of citrus and Mediterranean herbs, Averna is the perfect after-dinner liqueur.
