About this deal

The top pusher will be used to start the time. Then at the moment when you want to record the time, push the bottom pusher. Although this watch is not the first one to use this concept, Seiko is the company that was able to execute it well on this wristwatch. The case is made out of stainless steel and has the durable feel that you’d expect from the practical kind of watch that it is. Seiko FlightMaster SNA411 really has a very distinct dial design which you will either love it or hate it. It’s super busy and will turn off lots of people. The markers are very small – just some small dots on the dial which are also applied with lume. Unless you are new to analog watch, this will not be a problem.

By rotating the bezel, various navigational calculations can be made (in addition to normal slide rule calculations listed above) such as: To achieve this, Seiko uses screw down on the watch’s crown and pushers. It does not really make any sense to give an aviation watch a 200 m water resistance rating but who cares right?

Seiko SNA411 Review Men’s Watch

Pushing the bottom pusher again will make the seconds hand to catch up to the time. I doubt most of SNA411’s owners will use this in their daily life but one thing for sure the sweeping motion of the seconds hand catching up to the time is very beautiful. This brand doesn’t have the heritage or recognition of most other Swiss-made brands, so won’t retain its value the same way that rivals might. While the dial arrangement is very similar to different Navitimer models, the fonts used are different and this model comes in some alternative colourways that set it apart from some of the ‘clones’ featured in this article. Being a chronograph also made the dial busier. The 3 subdials definitely take lots of space at the center of the dial until there is no free space at all.

Which is why I had to make an exception to this Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 – it’s so darn cheap and have all the bells and whistles in an aviation watch. Originally founded in Switzerland, Rotary watches are particularly popular in the United Kingdom; which is their primary market. One of their offerings, dubbed the ‘Chronospeed’, is clearly a homage to the Breitling Navitimer; featuring many of the same design cues. It has a chronograph that is a functional tool and is useful for engineers and pilots. To use the feature, you need to operate the two pushers found on the right side of the watch. The one at the top right is used to start and to pause the chronograph while the one at the bottom right is used to reset the chronograph. It also has a split time function, which is useful for sporting events. You can record time of events. Rotary slide rule Most Sinn models come fitted with an ETA Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement, which is considered one of the very best movements available, or alternatively the highly regarded Sellita SW500; which is essentially a clone of the former (Sellita used to make movements under contract for ETA).The Seiko SNA411 runs on battery, which will require replacement after a few years (depends on how often you use the chronograph). A more wearable 40mm alternative, the unusually named Krug-Baumen ‘Air Traveller’ is a dirt-cheap Chinese-made Brietling copy, that takes its bling to the next level. The Seiko ‘Flightmaster’ (SNA411) was the very first watch that jumped to mind when creating this selection of watches, due to its obvious resemblance to the Breitling legend. There’s also a rather impressive Bidirectional coin edged bezel with slide rule. Slide rules can look complicated but you can learn to use them quite easily. If you want to learn about this then it was summed up quite well here. This means you can just wear this watch when swimming or scuba diving without the need to change to your diver watch. How cool is that? But of course for very deep dives I would recommend an ISO 6425 certified diver watch for your own safety =p
