She's always looking to Oliver for guidance and reassurance but then once they are separated she has to start relying on her own resources in ways she has never been asked to before. There was a lot of digging as I wanted to get to the root of my character to understand why he’s so aggressive in certain situations, when and why he’s become a wolfish character and where the pain is coming from. To be honest, I’ve always thought the blurbs make them look rather graphic, but decided it was time to at least try one. Megan Gallagher says: "The project is a partnership between Laurent Boissel of APC Studios and Elaine Cameron of Hartswood Films.

Obviously it doesn’t take much brain power to realise that if you are going to dip your toes into a series of books about Detective Inspector Jack Caffrey, number seven isn’t actually the best place to start. I initially thought I was just coming in as a detective but by the end of episode one I quickly realised it’s nothing like I’ve ever really done before, and something that I certainly haven’t seen on British TV before. The first novel of the series was titled ‘Birdman’ and was published by the Dell Publishing Company in the year 2000.

Born in Essex on 2 January 1962, Hayder grew up in Loughton as the daughter of John Bastin, an astrophysicist, and Susan Hollins, a teacher. Sacha Dhawan ( The Master in Doctor Who) plays Honey alongside Iwan Rheon ( Game Of Thrones, Misfits, A Christmas Number One) as Molina, a pair of mismatched detectives forced together on an unusual job. Oliver is a self-made, successful businessman and it's come through his own talent, his own academic knowhow. I've always wanted to work with Iwan because he's done such fantastic work on screen, theatre and in so many different genres too.The post mortem report of the dead bodies suggests that they were all having a horrific singular signature that linked all of them. I’m incredibly proud of WOLF; it’s a series for people who like their crime served up in a slightly different way. The son, who isn't present in the story, is a bit of a big success story which probablymeans a lot to this family as it seems there’s likely been pressure to be successful in this family. What’s great about the writing is that it has some very comical elements to it as well as being quite dark, so you never really know what’s going on. That’s really where we see the wolf in him, in the sense that he can’t let go of the metaphorical scent of blood.

Meanwhile, Sian Reese-Williams ( Line Of Duty, Hidden) stars DI Maia Lincoln, a woman with a case to prove, Juliet Stevenson is Mathilda Anchor-Ferrers, an intelligent yet neurotic wealthy housewife, with Owen Teale ( Game Of Thrones) as her wealthy and well-connected husband Oliver. With her usual trademark build up of tension, Mo Hayder takes us on a twisted journey towards an unknown outcome. Another draw to this project would be filming in Wales, it’s been a joy and I really adore the crews. We literally shot in one location – a mansion - so the Anchor-Ferrers story, vivid and extreme though it is, is always held in the bubble of that one house. However, the heightened interaction between Caffery and series stalwart, The Walking Man, added an enjoyable distraction to the lack of Flea, and the intensity of the overall plot.

But while I felt there was some skill in the basic writing and pacing of the book, the plot, which started out fairly well, became increasingly inconsistent and unbelievable as the book wore on till, quite frankly, it reached the point of absurdity in the end. The project is a partnership between Laurent Boissel of APC Studios and Elaine Cameron of Hartswood Films. And that's what he does for much of the book: travel through the villages outside Bristol trying to piece together who this dog belongs to.There’s many different genres across the series which eventually tie up into one intriguing narrative. Gone, her seventh novel, won the Edgar Allen Poe Award and her novel Wolf was nominated for Best Novel in the 2015 Edgar Awards, and is currently being adapted for the BBC. I've gotten to the latest instalment of the Caffery series and sadly I'm a little disappointed with this one. One of the biggest writing challenges of this series was balancing the two crime storylines, (both of which are rich with twists and turns – one of Mo Hayder’s specialities), with enough breathing room for characterisation.
