About this deal

Next, we can discuss the software abilities of the QNAP TVS-872XT Thunderbolt 3.All that hardware and power will be rather useless without being able to do anything with it! We have covered that this device can be connected via Thunderbolt 3 and 10Gbe for live editing of 1080p and 4K on the NAS remotely as an external drive (using Final Cut Pro, PhotoShop, Da Vinci Resolve and more), but what about the general NAS uses outside of this content creation industries? I am pleased to confirm that this NAS can do EVERYTHING that QNAP and QTS can offer and here is just a handful of them: QNAP TS-453BT3 10gbe ports Starting with an empty drive cage (to avoid any accidents) I booted from USB and installed a fresh install of 11.2-U7 to both internal SSDs. With the SATA SSD installed, I was able to get consistent performance using a striped RAIDZ mirror pool with four SSDs and a hot spare—but that performance stayed around 320 MB/sec writes over long periods of time! That's only a third of the available bandwidth, and only a little better than the 200-250 MB/sec I was getting on my 2.5 Gigabit NAS. QVR Pro is plenty good enough for me, don’t need QVR Elite, but it needs more horse than a TS-873; mine now runs well on a TVS-EC1080+.

For now, I'm happy having a server that can consistently write 700+ MB/sec, and read 1.1 GB/sec, with extremely low latency, over my 10 gigabit network.Bays, 2x M.2 NVMe 2280, Intel N5105 4-Core 2.0-2.9Ghz CPU, 8-32GB Memory, 2x 2.5Gbe Port, 4K HDMI 2.0b Port (Code/Command Level Access, no GUI), USB 3.2 Gen 2 10G, 3yr Warranty Under the 8-bay 2.5” cage is a single 2.5” drive cage for an OS SSD. This cage can be removed if space is needed underneath. Technically, this makes the unit a 9x 2.5″ chassis. SilverStone CS280 HDD Cage Power supply not included: We have a selection of ATX power supplies available to use with this case.

When it comes to NAS cases, the size of the motherboard they can accommodate plays a significant role in determining their differences. ITX and ATX NAS cases differ in this aspect, with ITX cases being smaller and accommodating smaller motherboards compared to their ATX counterparts. This means that ATX motherboards have more PCIe lanes, making them better suited for multi-GPU setups or users who want to use multiple PCIe devices. So if you need a space-saving build, you can see our slim ATX cases for inspiration. How many hard drives can fit inside a mini ITX NAS case? Flexible Configurations: Three distinct options catering to diverse needs, ranging from base configurations to those with enhanced power supplies or slide rails. Have you heard if Synology will AT LEAST stop giving the INCOMPATIBILITY alert AFTER they have been installed and after that one SUPER Scary alert? If this was the first time I was seeing the hardware featured on the QNAP TVS-872X, with its Intel Core CPU, 64GB of potential memory, 10Gbe on-board, NVMe equipped slots and USB 10G throughout – I would have been reasonably impressed. Likewise, the scalability in PCIe, storage expansions and network connectivity down the line is also a very valid and positive aspect of this system. But for me, it will always live slighting in the shadow of its Thunderbolt 3 equipped older big brother in the TV-872XT. The software on either ZFS or EXT4 file system is still doing what it does well, finding the line between 1st party apps, 3rd party support, customization and (mostly) getting it right – if occasionally trying to be too big for its boots.

The fans utilized are 3-pin units. We would have preferred here if the fans were 4-pin PWM units which allows easier control of the fan speed. In 2019, virtually every motherboard that one would use in this chassis has 4-pin fan headers. Bays: 2x removable 3.5in SATA/SATA II Hard Drive bays (SAS/SATAII compatible, cold swappable); 1x 2.5in SSD/HDD bay.Notes: Several cases have a combination of internal and external (i.e. removable) drive bays, allowing room for a separate boot drive. The Travla T2240 and T2241 chassis have 4 removable bays which can be allocated in any combination between 2 motherboards. CFI-A9859 Value NAS Chassis (2x External HDD, 1x Internal HDD, 1x Optical Bay) Slot 2: PCIe Gen3 x4 (PCH)Note: Slot 1 is pre-installed with a Thunderbolt 3 network expansion card

This mini-size NAS-compatible enclosure has a capacity of 22 liters and can hold up to twelve 2.5″ SAS, including four internal and 8 external hot-swappable 3.5″ SATA drives for ease of access. Aside from simple usage, I don’t think you can dispute how premium and feature-rich this high-quality, robust, and attractive case is. Transcode 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4K resolution to change media to more acceptable formats on the fly to your iPhone, Android device or more It is worth remembering that although there are ALOT of different 8-Bay NAS drives available to buy, they are by no means created equal! With numerous super-budget brands popping up online, it can be tempting to consider these alongside the premium NAS brands. However, all too often they offer solutions righty seem ‘too good to be true’ and then are gone from the web before your warranty even gets cold! So, whether you are looking at the three best 8-Bay solutions that I am recommending below OR are looking at another 8-Bay NAS you saw on offer/recommended elsewhere – the best NAS system ALWAYS includes the following software and services: Support upto 40 IP Cameras with the free enterprise-class surveillance software, with 4 free licences includedAntivirus (ClamAV) – Scheduled Scans, Automatic Virus Definition Updates, Quarantine Infected Files Versatile 'cube' style case supporting 3x 3.5in HDDs or 4x 2.5in HDD/SSDs and various combinations in between. Suitable for all Mini-ITX motherboards. Constructed from a steel alloy frame with polymer front mesh panel. This server build can be done with just as much capability (but a lower storage amount) on a more stringent budget, or can go 'all out' maxing out the RAM and SSD storage space. I'll show a price comparison of both (noting that my needs—tons of RAM and tons of SSD space—may not match your own, if the main goal is 'very fast SSD NAS'): Part But I had a problem: I couldn't get the Supermicro motherboard to boot off UEFI. I was getting errors about "CPU with APIC ID 0 is not enabled", and I spent an hour messing around in the BIOS before (temporarily) giving up and throwing in a SATA boot SSD. Can be used as a fantastic Plex Media Server and for a Native media server, supports transcoding upto 1080P
