About this deal

Ari and Hector spend all their time together at the bakery with their friends, go for walks together… It's also a movie on Netflix now, I believe, starring Naomi Watts. I haven't seen it (yet), but do plan on doing so.

The last book I read by Kenneth Oppel was Inkling, so this was quite a different experience but similarly engaging. There are some things children should never have to see - and watching their mother be critically injured and almost die is very definitely one of those things. Will you read the next two books in the series? What do you think will happen to Anaya, Petra, and Seth? Read this! You won’t regret it! It made me laugh, it brought tears to my eyes, it made me happy— it made me feel just a whole wide range of emotions & the cherry on top was being in love with all the ADORABLE BAKING ART! I didn't imagine I would ever become so invested in a sci-fi book, but here I am. It's such an accurate description of Hatchet meets Alien - but I would say Hatchet meets Dark Deep (By Ally Condie and Brendan Reichs).Literally the only reason I can see for Hector "loving" or "caring about" Ari is because he thinks that Ari is handsome or has a good body. That's it. Full-stop. There's literally NOTHING attractive about Ari's sniveling personality. He has no work ethic. He has no drive. He hangs around shitty people who say shitty things and doesn't stand up for himself or others. He's passive-aggressive. He's whiny. He's pouty. He's like a child - and not a happy child! A depressed, needy child prone to crying jags.

Cameron and his wife Sam loved to travel which they did quite a bit of before they had their children. Once they started having children they found they didn’t have quite as much time to travel, but would when the opportunity arose. As a family holiday they choose to go to Thailand, but it is on this particular holiday where Sam has an unfortunate fall, but this fall nearly ends her life and will change her and her family's life forever. Sam fights to get through each day life as she once knew it will never return and trying to deal with that alone is more than she can bare. The day one of her sons discovers a baby magpie that has fallen out of its nest was the day that would change all of their lives, but this time in a positive way. They call the baby magpie Penguin yes, you read that correct who has a broken wing and over the next few months they nurture the magpie and save its life. In the meantime unbeknown to the little magpie she is helping a family heal and become the family they once were. What do you feel Robyn’s illustrations bring to the story? Can you describe your process of working together? Another beautiful part of the book is the photographs. The author, Sam's husband Cameron, is a professional photographer and his photographs are a testament to the love and relationship the family holds with Penguin.

Sorrel Fallowfield is so good at being good that teachers come to her when they need help remembering the school rules – and there are LOTS. Ari not knowing what he wanted to do in life. I think that this uncertainty is almost universal in teens and I appreciated its portrayal. that being said, this was the only thing I liked about Ari’s character. I read this book because I saw its screen adaptation on an OTT platform first. I loved the movie 'Penguin' and wanted to learn firsthand about the book it was based on. And that is how it came about to be.

Also there is added a section at the end (mostly words and far less photos) where she has written profoundly and in practical detail how to be a family member or associate or aid or loving friend to anyone who has life changing and stark immobility and paralysis become the now and forever. The perfect book right now for young readers searching for hope, strength, inspiration — and just a little horticultural havoc.”— New York Times I read this at the end of April. With the pandemic, I found myself recognizing similarities between what was happening around me and what was happening in the book. Those moments where disaster slowly unfolds around the world felt acutely stressful. And it’s in the little things as well – a headline that references the economy shrinking as unnatural allergies hit workers, a character buying extra canned goods just in case… In a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world. Jenna Davenroy – A nuclear engineer in her 40s. She is the ladderdown expert on the Pasteur and also its chief propulsion monitor.
