About this deal

Hey! For the Trail, I’ve actually changed my thoughts on their sizing as I’ve worn them more, especially for longer hikes. I’d suggest going up a half size in the Trail as it runs a little shorter compared to the Primus Lite and Geo Racer!

The Vivobarefoot Primus Trail II All-Weather IMO are excellent for trail running in ANY condition between -20°C to +20°C. Highly recommend! The Sierra Designs 800 20 is all designed to make nights in the great outdoors more comfortable – no zips required! However, the amount of flex on offer here does pose a bit of a challenge when a stable platform is needed. Even on steep grassy slopes there’s no chance of seriously digging in, it’s all about working with the terrain rather than fighting it – fine in everyday situations, but potentially concerning on steeper, more exposed terrain. Vivobarefoot Primus Trail II FG Review: verdict if you want to have your feet splay out more – over the course of 6-12 months your feet may grow if you’re new to barefoot 🙂 Reply

While closing the loop on manufacturing processes and shortening supply chains ultimately reduces impact, this is certainly not the norm when compared to current standards of conventional production. Though this results in more expensive products for now, companies producing according to standards set by B Corp are at least striving to create positive change within their industries. The price of the Primus Trail II FG is higher than others, but the production of this shoe is also being held to a higher ethical standard. Conclusion The last thing to like about this model is the breathability of the upper construction and how easy they are to clean. This shoe is designed with sustainable materials and the upper is composed of a lightweight mesh build. If you’re using these in warmer climates, then I think you’ll enjoy how well these shoes breathe. If you’re someone that wants to save a little money and you want to go the barefoot trail shoe route, then you might want to look into the Xero Shoes Mesa Trail model. This model will cost you less and deliver a similar performance to the Primus Trail II FG. H2O Audio TRI PRO Multi-Sport Headphones with Playlist+ review: take your tunes underwater and on dry land

Takeaway Thoughts

Once you can’t repair or don't need them anymore, send us your old Vivos and we’ll make they sure they’re given a second life, or if they’re really well-loved, we'll store them until we launch our recycling solution. Vivo appear to be making a real effort to go beyond greenwashing, and also source their labor ethically. These efforts undoubtedly push the price up a little, but compared to some other running shoes, the price tag on the Primus Trail is not extreme.

This Vivo fits small, so we suggest moving one size up. If you use StrutFit to get a recommended size, it will automatically factor this in. There’s no need to size up twice. I personally think this is a good thing because it adds to this shoe’s ability to protect the feet and not beat them up while also giving you enough to simulate being barefoot. This model has a 2.5mm base sole with 4mm lugs which work really well on light and moderately technical trails. The Primus Trail II All Weather FG shoes are recycled all-weather mesh textile for their rs and soles. It has no animal products included in the shoes, making it vegan-friendly. Having already done a Vivobarefoot Primus Trail review (which I loved), I was very keen to try the new Primus Trail 2 All-Weather / winter which Vivobarefoot launched.

Our Verdict

These are definitely much better in cooler weather, while the Primus Trail FG and knit are simply better in warm weather due to the ventilation. Beyond that, the differences are minimal as the rest of the shoe (sole, tread, etc) is the same. Trekking between mountain huts is a sensational experience, and we’re going to let you into a secret: it’s best to do it outside of summer The first thing to like about the Primus Trail II FG is that it provides adequate foot protection on different types of trails. The “FG” in the name of this model stands for “Firm Ground” which is a means of classifying particular soles used in some Vivobarefoot Shoes. The FG in this model basically adds to this shoe’s protection and gives you a slightly more stiff sole to walk on. This barefoot shoe delivers on the full-range of natural feeling for those runners who demand natural locomotionOver the course of my testing, I tried to use the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail II FG on a variety of trails and hikes to help contextualize where they perform the best and where they fall short. The Vivobarefoot Primus Trail II FG should fit true-to-size for most trail and hiking enthusiasts. This model has more than enough width and its length fits pretty true. However, I’d definitely suggest using Vivobarefoot’s sizing tool before investing in this model.
