About this deal

The panel on this Dell notched an impressive 338 nits of brightness on our light meter, outshining the ThinkPad T460s (240 nits), the 1080p version of the EliteBook (288), and our 249 thin-and-light average.

Both are dual-core models supporting up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, are vPro compliant and offer Trusted Extension Technology, SGX and MPX extensions and Transactional Synchronization Extensions New Instructions (TSX-NI). The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 supports 4K, DirectX 12 and OpenGL 4.4. Only two processors are available, both from Intel's sixth generation family: the Core i5-6300U and the Core i7-6600U. As for management, E7470 users will rely on the optional Intel's vPro management features as well as Dell Client Command Suite for BIOS and system configuration. The Latitude managed to stay just cool enough for comfort in our testing. After streaming 15 minutes of HD video, the notebook's touchpad, keyboard and underside reached 79, 85 and 94 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively, all of which are under our 95-degree comfort threshold. The Dell Latitude E7470 software and warranty During our brief time with the laptop, we found it to be fast, silent – even under load (although we didn't try prime95 or any similar benchmarks) – and it boasts some top-notch input peripherals and an equally great reparability experience.

We are reviewing the premium model with WQHD touch panel. How business-compatible 2560x1440 pixels is will depend on the application. We will answer the question if Dell uses a state-of-the-art panel. If you type a lot on your notebook keyboard, you will want a high quality input device. The keys with a conical curvature have a firm, almost hard stroke. The whole keyboard area does not bounce and cannot be pushed in, either. The keys are not rubberized, but not slippery. The travel is pretty limited but still comparable to good professional inputs. In return, we can enjoy an excellent pressure point, which is immediately noticeable when you hit a key. The notebook's 3.8 x 2.1-inch touchpad was just as reliable. Its smooth surface made switching among tabs a breeze, and gestures such as pinching to zoom and swiping three fingers right to change apps felt immediate and natural. The thin chassis certainly looks the part, even though it does not use an ultra-light construction. 1,737 grams is significantly heavier than anEliteBook Folio 1040 G2(1,510 grams). Only theThinkPad T450sis similarly heavy. This does not affect the level of sophistication or the tactile feel, because Dell constructed a very sturdy notebook. The chassis construction follows the principle of a tub; it opens towards the bottom, where you can find a bottom cover. It sits flush with the rest of the case. There are no maintenance hatches; you can lift the whole cover pretty easily after the removal of some screws. The chassis is extremely torsion-resistant; it will just slightly warp under a lot of pressure (MIL-STD 810 testing). My only real quibble with Dell's notebook is with its hard-to-reach ports, which might not be a big issue if you plan on keeping the laptop on your desk. HP's EliteBook Folio is even thinner and lighter (and has a 4K display option), but the Latitude 14 offers a better mix of style, ports and endurance.
