While it’s a single-player game, hearing where every enemy and projectile is coming from is no less important, and that proved a little more difficult with these headphones. From subtle footsteps sneaking up behind you to climatic explosions that blow you away, every sound detail is heard when you’re gaming with the RazerKraken. In both Shadow Warrior and Mad Max, I could hear attacks clearly coming from the left, right, and front based on the stereo mix.
As opposed to a detachable mic, you don't have to worry about misplacing it, and it's quite nice to not have to worry about losing it when using the headset strictly for listening to music or podcasts.
The headset also offers pretty much bog-standard isolation for a gaming headset, though it struggles a little more with highs than many comparable options. Both games sounded balanced, with sculpting that puts most of the power behind the low-mids and high-mids. They don't breath particularly well though, and after a short gaming session in a warm room I found the cushions were toasty and a bit sweaty. The cushions themselves are soft and have a decent amount of give, and even while wearing them over glasses there's no pressure, and they feel comfortable. If you’ve ever struggled to get headphone pads to rest flat on the sides of your head, this will take a little doing.
The Bauxite aluminum frame of the Razer Kraken makes it lightweight, flexible, and extremelydurable. However, unlike a lot of Razer products, there are no obnoxious LEDs or bright green highlights here. The bagpipes in The Real Mackenzies' "Chip" lacks the prominent edge necessary to overcome the bass drum beat, and Paul McKenzie's signature raspiness doesn't come through very well. This type of device allows you to listen at lower volume levels, causing less ear fatigue as you don't have to crank up the volume to overcome background noise. The Razer Kraken Pro V2 is a pretty standard-looking Razer headset, with the rounded headphones, retractable mic, and foam-covered aluminum band typical of the Kraken line.
Razer has long been synonymous with PC gaming hardware, and its headset lineup is a bit confusing due to the weird names it gives all its products.channel surround sound instead of spatial audio, but it's a fun headset for the cosplayer or streamer crowds. The Kraken Pro V2 is great if you just want something to work as advertised as soon as you plug it in—no muss, no fuss.
