About this deal

Now, to me it doesn’t sound like the ones who accomplish such the amazing feat of getting a screen accurate 4th Doctor scarf off the needles are the ‘dumb’ ones. According to Baker, the Doctor's scarf was the idea of costume designer James Acheson. Acheson, knowing little about knitting, procured large quantities of various colours of wool, and commissioned Begonia Pope, a friend of his, to create a colourful design. She proceeded to use all of the wool provided, resulting in the absurdly long, but iconic, accessory. [7] There were other reasons for not giving way to the temptation to make a radical change. Tom had developed very clear ideas of what he liked, and what worked for him, and as the lynch-pin of the whole series, I think he quite understandably found it difficult to see the sense in the producer’s making change for change’s sake. Although he said, with his usual generosity, that he would wear anything I designed – “even if it’s a tent, darling” – I desperately wanted to be true to Tom’s vision. Besides, I don’t think it would have rung true for the character of the Doctor to make too great a change.

For a very in-depth look at the scarves, including Pantone color references and wool brands, there is nothing better than DoctorWhoScarf.com. So, get knitting, Who-vians! Words I would chose to use to describe Who fans who finish knitting or crocheting (‘…roughly the same result?’ Do you even knit or crochet?) a Who scarf are: Did you really bean “base” or did you intend to use the word “Blase?” Either way, still inaccurate. He also appeared in the specials The Five Doctors (via footage from the incomplete Shada) and made his final appearance as the Doctor in the charity special Dimensions in Time (aside from a series of television advertisements in New Zealand in 1997). [1] The Seventh Doctor used the tartan scarf from his newly found outfit to stall the First Rani as he tried to escape her laboratory. ( TV: Time and the Rani) The Doctor replaced the lost scarf with a paisley one in the TARDIS wardrobe. ( PROSE: The Useful Pile)Tom Baker also recorded narration, in character as the Fourth Doctor, for a 1976 audio release of Genesis of the Daleks, which was subsequently re-issued by the BBC on cassette and CD as a radio drama. Baker returned again to Doctor Who for the 1990s audio cassette releases of "lost" Doctor Who stories. For some of these stories, he is in character as the Doctor. For others, he merely provides descriptive narration.

The show is unapologetically optimistic about human nature, sometimes to a fault. I suppose I was also being overly optimistic when I made my replica of The Scarf. It’s difficult to take anyone wearing a fourteen-foot-long scarf seriously. It’s unwieldy. You have to loop it two or three times to keep from tripping over it, and it will still fall down to your knees. I don’t think I wanted to be taken seriously when I wore it; I wanted to be taken as a serious fan of a TV show that I loved, and that I wanted other people to love. When I stopped wearing it, it was because I wanted to be taken as a serious person in a different sort of way. When I made my version of The Scarf, I was doing the same thing as the characters on the show: I was declaring my allegiance to a humanist time-traveling alien by co-opting part of his costume. I was wearing my heart—and my love for the optimism of the show—quite literally around my shoulders.Appearance [ edit ] Painting of Aristide Bruant by Lautrec, which inspired the Doctor's famous look. At the same time, stories such as The Deadly Assassin (1976) established most of the mythology surrounding the Time Lords and the Doctor's home planet Gallifrey and that would remain a key feature for the rest of the classic series and still be felt in the revived series. For example, it is established that Time Lords only have a limited number of regenerations, which is a driving plot point in the stories Mawdryn Undead, The Five Doctors, The Trial of a Time Lord, the 1996 television movie and the 2013 Christmas special " The Time of the Doctor".

When John Nathan-Turner became the show's producer in Baker's last year, the Fourth Doctor was the first to sport an item of clothing adorned with question marks as a motif, in this case, above the points on his shirt collars. His overall costume was redesigned, changing the colour focus from brown to red. Designer June Hudson later revealed in an interview that Nathan-Turner had even given her permission to remove the scarf altogether if she wanted to. [9] Hudson opted to keep the scarf, as it was such an iconic part of the character. The Doctor escaped execution by using his scarf to trip up Count Federico's executioner. ( TV: The Masque of Mandragora) Baker portrays the Fourth Doctor as a whimsical and sometimes brooding individual whose enormous personal warmth is at times tempered by his capacity for righteous anger. His initial companions were the journalist Sarah Jane Smith ( Elisabeth Sladen), who had travelled with his previous incarnation, and Surgeon-Lieutenant Harry Sullivan ( Ian Marter) of UNIT. His later companions were the warrior Leela ( Louise Jameson), robotic dog K9 ( John Leeson and David Brierly), female Time Lord Romana ( Mary Tamm and Lalla Ward), teen mathematical genius Adric ( Matthew Waterhouse), teen alien aristocrat Nyssa ( Sarah Sutton), and Australian flight attendant Tegan Jovanka ( Janet Fielding). Just for fun, I will suppose that the number of rows is the “significand” and the color coded base 60 number is the “manissa”. While the Tenth Doctor was travelling with Gabby Gonzalez, one of the scarves was on a mannequin with one of the Fourth Doctor's brown coats in the TARDIS wardrobe. ( COMIC: Laundro-Room of Doom)The Beast of Kravenos (adventure related by the characters the Fourth Doctor, Romana II & K9) (2017)

The English way of Death (adventure related by the characters the Fourth Doctor, Romana II & K9) (2015) Shortly after regenerating from his third incarnation, the Fourth Doctor accompanied Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart on an investigation. He tried on several conspicuous costumes before settling on a Bohemian outfit. This included a wide-brimmed fedora and a long scarf. ( TV: Robot) The scarf was originally knitted by Madame Nostradamus ( TV: The Ark in Space), according to one source, as a gift for the First Doctor. ( PROSE: " Unpredictable Tastes") The Justice of Jalxar (adventure related by the characters the Fourth Doctor, Romana I, Jago & Litefoot) (2013) The TARDIS wardrobe contained a multi-coloured scarf during the Doctor's tenth incarnation. ( TV: The Christmas Invasion)
