About this deal

The waterfall is actually in its own state park, but many people skip over it as a wayside rest along the highway. It’s a huge fall that you can’t see the entirety of, because of its location and where the trail is. Normally, we have these guides broken up into distinct trail sections, covering the distance and elevation gain of each and giving a mini trail report on each section with our observations, tips, and thoughts.

If you do end up doing the entire hike, it’ll wind through forests and you’ll forget that you’re right in town. The trailhead, which is just off Highway 2, only an hour from Seattle, is easy to access, which is what makes it so popular amongst hikers. From the trailhead, you’ll start climbing immediately. You’ll enter the forest, and a quarter of a mile later, you’ll reach a sturdy wooden footbridge that crosses over Van Trump Creek just above Christine Falls. Ellis-Petersen, Hannah (23 May 2014). "John Banville: 'Quirke comes from the damaged recesses of my Irish soul' ". The Guardian . Retrieved 28 October 2014. Just after this, you’ll come to a steep spot that is something between stairs and a ladder. Take a moment to be impressed by the construction which allows you to safely get over a particularly steep section. Impressive log stairs that are almost more like a ladder! The answer is yes. It's almost impossible to tell someone who hasn't read it what Banville's prizewinning novel The Sea is "about", but the problem with Christine Falls is saying anything at all without ruining a compelling novel set in the redolent, boozy, dank, stifling Dublin of the 1950s, a city dominated by a tight-lipped and even more tightly networked mafia made up of a few prominent clans, civil war diehards, the transatlantic diaspora and the tentacular arms of the Catholic church. Accessibility and Mobility: The trail is overall in good condition. There are stairs at the beginning of the hike and a couple of single log bridges without handrails. There are also some roots in parts of the trail.

Continue walking until you reach the best viewpoint, which is right in front of the falls, near the edge of the mossy cliffs. Considered to be less known than some others on this list, it’s a great place to picnic and find a little tranquility among blooming rhododendrons. Like the other Mount Rainier-based waterfalls listed here, Myrtle Falls is about a 2-hour-and-30-minute drive from Seattle, which will feel like nothing after a long day of exploring the mountain! Comet Falls You’ll come to a viewpoint of the 170-foot tall waterfall on the other side of a gorge-like feature. I’ve read that the Christine Falls was named after Christine Van Trump, the daughter of a mountaineer named P. B. Van Trump.

Book Summary

Beautiful mountain landscapes, mossy green forests, and miles of ocean shoreline are just a few of the incredible natural wonders in the Pacific Northwest. Cherry Creek Falls is a smaller waterfall near Seattle but is a nice little spot to get away from the city and avoid the crowds at bigger destinations. Located near Stevens Pass on Highway 2, Deception Falls is the perfect place to stop and get in an easy waterfall hike before your other adventures.

Christine Falls Viewpoint - All You Need to Know BEFORE You

He woke hours later, curled on his side, with a vague but pressing sense of imminent disaster. He had no memory of lying down here, among the corpses. He was chilled to the bone, and his tie was askew and choking him. He sat up, clearing his throat; how much had he drunk, first in McGonagle's and then at the party upstairs? The door to his office stood open—surely it was a dream that Mal had been there? He swung his legs to the floor and gingerly stood upright. He was light-headed, as if the top of his skull had been lifted clear off. Raising an arm, he gravely saluted the trolleys, Roman-style, and walked stiffly at a tilt out of the room. Finally, you’ll emerge from the forest at the base of a waterfall! But… wait? You might be thinking “this isn’t Comet Falls. Or at least it looks different from pictures I’ve seen of it.” To get to the Comet and Christine Falls trailhead from the west entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, drive 16.4 km on State Route 706 to the signed parking lot on your left. Route Information Comet Falls is 300 feet tall, and is equally impressive from far away with its winding river and cascading smaller falls in the foreground, as it is up close. It dwarfs the other waterfalls in the area and is well worth the extra effort to get to compared to those other waterfalls, which are largely accessible from the parking lot (or within a quarter mile of it).Correct! This is Bloucher Falls, and this is the BONUS waterfall we mentioned above. We had no idea this was here, and it was a very pleasant surprise. If the hike was just up to this waterfall, we wouldn’t have been terribly disappointed. Just after the bridge you’ll get your first view of the spectacular 320 foot drop of Comet Falls. There are some wide picnic spots here and you can turn around at this point if you like, just under 2 miles from your car. First view of Comet Falls!
