About this deal

This stands in heavy contrast to the obsessed, blind figure Corax becomes throughout the book, caring less and less about his fellow Raven Guard and more about his own need for vengeance and the fastest ways to achieve it. Director John Boorman wisely chose to opt for realism in telling this savage tale. He shot Deliverance on location in the wilds of rural Georgia and used some of the real population as extras to give it a proper flavor. The four leads all perform well and Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty made great big screen debuts that insured both long careers.

The four vacationers, Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox get put through all kinds of hell by some of the locals when out on the river. It gets good and personal and draw your own conclusions there. In the end it's a fight for survival. In conclusion, Deliverance Lost is an awesome addition to the Horus Heresy novels and although not quite on the same level of novels like A Thousand Sons, Prospero Burns, The First Heretic, Fulgrim etc, which would probably rank as a 4.5 on the Rating scale, it is nonetheless a solid addition to the Horus Heresy and I am probably not the only one that wishes to see Thorpe return to this series soon. I will be looking forward to when he does. More Horus Heresy: Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, Flight of the Eisenstein, Fulgrim, Descent of Angels, Legion, Battle for the Abyss, Mechanium, Tales of Heresy, Fallen Angels, A Thousand Sons, Nemesis, The First Heretic, Prospero Burns, Age of Darkness, The Outcast Dead, Deliverance Lost, Know No Fear, The Primarchs, Fear To Tread, Promethean Sun, Aurelian, Raven’s Flight, Dark King, The Lightning Tower

I also want to praise it for the way Gav Thorpe managed to plant the seeds of suspicion within the reader. Piling up erratic behavior through the Alpha Legionaries and certain characters and ramping up the tension of the infiltration, he provided a magnificent red herring for readers to follow. He plays on us to put the hints together in a suitable way, and the resulting reveals end up more surprising than they otherwise would have been. It was well executed throughout the whole book, which shows that Gav does pretty well with intrigue stories; no surprise considering he has been writing Dark Angels for so long. Things start well enough, but deep down we know they cannot end well and we spend the entire book waiting for the hammer to fall and shatter all hope. It is worse when the story appears so linear and predictable. Tibbetts, John C., and James M. Welsh, eds. The Encyclopedia of Novels Into Film (2nd ed. 2005) pp 94–95. [ ISBNmissing] Despite all the bits of pre-Legion history or the Alpha Legion shenanigans orchestrated by Alpharius and Omegon, the book really is about Corax. It is about the gene-experiments and the creation of the Raptors, too, of course, but primarily it seemed to me as a study of Corax' growing distance between himself and his remaining Legion, his obsession with a supposedly simple solution, his impatience and disregard for what he has left in favor of reaching for the stars and risking to lose everything he had left.Watching Deliverance tonight put me in mind of the great Elia Kazan film The Wild River which was about the Tennessee Valley Authority building a dam that would bury a certain island under water in the middle of the Tennessee River. On that island was a clan that was headed by Jo Van Fleet. In the end all they could do was move and Van Fleet die as the water swallowed up their homes and way of life. Reading these heresy novels start to feel like watching the Titanic going on its journey to the deep. The best Warhammer books combine gripping, adrenaline-infused action with quiet, character driven moments. The (very) good Warhammer books punch you in the face with unrelenting bolter fire then end before you realized that there wasn't that much story or what was wasn't actually very good. Deliverance Lost belongs to neither of these categories. That said, it felt like the book overstayed its welcome with the Perfect Fortress. It threw the pacing off, adding action to a book whose strengths lay in the subterfuge and internal strife of its characters. The second part is a big game of Unmask The Spy, and also the Doom in which the Raven Guard is thrown. A very nice read.Like Graham McNeill, Gav Thorpe is an author who I am rather, on the fence about. Sure, he’s had fantastic books like Path of the Warrior and Path of the Seer, but has also had not very good books like Purging of Kadillus, which was one of the poorer additions to the Space Marine Battles series, and I was wondering if Deliverance Lost would be a complete screw-up, or something that truly deserved its place in the Horus Heresy Series. I The Solar War • II The Lost and the Damned • III The First Wall • Sons of the Selenar • IV Saturnine • Fury of Magnus • V Mortis • VI Warhawk • VII Echoes of Eternity • Garro: Knight of Grey • VIII The End and the Death ( Volume I • Volume II • Volume III)
