About this deal

It heats up in three seconds (thanks to Sage’s “Thermojet” heating system) and takes all of five minutes to set up from box to cappuccino.

The Vertuo Creatista brings together the trademark brushed-steel frame of Sage and the easy to use design of Nespresso. They’re also not always recyclable, although there are more and more eco-friendly pods popping up on the market. They have been designed as a closed and integrated system, which means they work exclusively with Iperespresso capsules. We were looking for how easy each coffee machine was to use, how easy they were to clean, how much space they took up in our small kitchens and how easy they were to maintain. Nevertheless, if you’re after a simple, affordable coffee capsule machine that won’t take up too much space, the Jolie is a fantastic option.Simply scroll across the touchscreen to choose your coffee of choice from the 19 options (I like a latte), press go and both the coffee and milk will pour themselves. Just make sure you put the right size cup down, or you’ll get coffee all over the floor as I did before I learned how it works. If you’re hankering after fine-tuning features like digital temperature control and manual dosing, then walk on by: simplicity is the watchword here.

It’s an investment for sure, but it’s intuitive to use, as powerful as a commercial machine (while reasonably affordable to run) and produces addictive coffee. Design-wise, the Sublime is available in black, deep red or cream and is pleasingly compact, measuring just 15. The Barista Touch Impress takes care of every part of the process for you, as it has an inbuilt burr grinder and bean hopper, along with hands-free, automated grinding and an easy-to-use touchscreen display. It’s made with tough, attractive materials, and features a nifty steam wand for making lattes and cappuccinos. I would highly recommend it for style and ease, but if you want to become a true coffee aficionado, you’re better off looking at one of the manual espresso machines below. Manual espresso machines will be best suited to hobbyists keen to really get into coffee making, who are willing to invest time, money and energy, whereas a pod or capsule machine will be better suited to someone who wants a quick and convenient way to make coffee on the way out of the door to work. It’s easy to turn on simply by pressing your coffee button of choice and has an auto-shut off feature after one minute to save energy. Pod compatibility: Not all pods fit all machines, so if you've already got a favoured brand of capsules, be sure to check that they're a match.

Our tester found the water tank’s capsule lever stiff to operate, but liked how quiet it was in use – a real pro for the families of early birds! In this article, our experts will explain exactly which features are and aren’t worth paying out for, and our mini reviews will give you a quick explanation of what we love about each machine. The Nespresso Creatista, made in collaboration with Sage, caters to a range of coffee options and cup sizes, with an adjustable steam wand for making frothy cappuccinos and silky lattes. There’s no messing around with programming drink sizes either – though you can do this if you want to customise your machine. When choosing a machine, the type of coffee you drink is a good starting point, plus how much time you have. It’s a massive rabbit hole – I’ve been in the industry for 10 years, but I still have to play around with recipes to get it right,” says specialty coffee trainer Jon Townsend.
