About this deal

Wonderful writing style narrated by the brilliant Simon Vance and delightful Neil Patrick Harris in the audiobook edition, which rounded off this intrepid and engaging story of revenge.

Here Holmes successfully turns the mystery genre upside down by making us root for our three goodhearted killers, who if they fail, don’t just receive an F — they pay with their lives. The academy with its seemingly jovial and good natured dean was idyllic and cozy which contrasted with its murderous purpose in a brilliant way. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college-its location unknown to even those who study there-is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate…and where one’s mandatory graduation thesis is getting away with the perfect murder of someone whose death will make the world a much better place to live. The McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts is a clandestine college set in a secret location which teaches the fine art of how to successfully murder (or delete as the novel has it) someone who has treated you badly.

We follow three protagonists who for very different reasons want/need to become “deletists” (NEVER “murderers”), and follow them as they learn secrets of the craft at the McMasters Conservatory of Applied Arts. Cliff’s journey is not the only one either; we also follow Dulcie Mown who’s really Doria Maye (famous actress who wants to delete the director who has started to destroy her career) and Gemma Lindley (she’s being blackmailed by her terrible boss who takes credit for all Gemma’s work). I wanted to see them woven together, or for something to bring the various characters and plots together (ideally in a way that would give them a bit more actual character work), but it was just three chopped up accounts of three unconvincingly elaborate plans to kill people, and by the end I will admit to skimming.

A delightful mix of witty wordplay, breathtaking twists and genuine intrigue, Murder Your Employer will gain you admission into a wholly original world, cocooned within the most entertaining book about well-intentioned would-be murderers you'll ever read. Rupert Holmes spins this unique story that is sure to open the reader’s eyes and pique their curiosity.p>The data controller is Headline Publishing Group Limited. Suddenly she's a POV and we're supposed to learn about her life and goals and a bunch of other stuff I didn't care about.

Baltimore engineer Cliff Iverson, British hospital worker Gemma Lindley, and incognito Hollywood star Dulcie Mown may hail from different walks of life, but all are at McMasters for the same reason: to learn how to kill their sadistic employers without getting caught. Rupert Holmes’s New York Times bestseller, Murder Your Employer (the first volume in his new McMasters Guide to Homicide series), was also a Top Ten on the Indie Bestseller List, the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, and Associated Press. You will find yourself not only becoming fully immersed into a unique worldview but totally rooting for all (well, almost all) the classmates attempting to finish their theses while following the Four Enquiries: Is this deletion necessary? The good part in this book is that all McMasters’ students have their reasons to delete and we experience their emotional struggles. There is so much dry humor here, I could totally picture it as a movie on the screen with the witty one-liners.

Never fear, that's what McMasters Conservatory for the Criminally Insane aka McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts is for. Set in the 1950s, the author creates an intriguing and atmospheric setting with a cast of interesting characters.

There is something about a book that has a title that starts with the words Murder your Employer that might just pique your interest. Dust jacket hand covered in protective archival grade Mylar for years of worry free collecting/reading! Cliff undertakes many of the courses needed to better understand the art of murder and how to effectively target those who deserve to be extinguished. Having created the McMasters universe, Holmes had to create universal truths to guide how people behave in a place bent on breaking the law.
