About this deal

In reflecting on his relationship with Penny, Anonymous states, “But she’s the one I regret hurting the most. Why? Because she didn’t deserve it. Not that the others did, but she wouldn’t have left me if I hadn’t ripped her apart. And I needed her to leave me because she was getting in the way of my drinking.” What can we learn about Anonymous from this specific statement?

Compare chapters 1 and half of chapter 2 to the rest of the book? What differences and similarities can we identify? What’s most disturbing is that he realizes all of that, and he’s well aware that the shit he did will most likely catch up with him. Then he meets Aisling. A young beauty from Dublin, with innocent eyes and an intelligent mind. He fell in love. Real hard. Obsessively hard. Okay, what can I say about this book? Well, for starters, it's 4 stars but not a good 4 stars. I liked it because it appalled me. I just really enjoy reading about psychotic and disgusting people. It intrigues me and being inside his head and taking a look around was just something else.

And I lived for the moment. I was working freelance in advertising all through this period in London. As an art director. A contradiction in terms if ever there was one. It's what I still do today. Strangely, I He is a raging misogynist (I am not just to clarify), and so I can understand why people don't like this book. THAT, however, is the exact reason why I DO. This is fictitious work but written as if an autobiography, so we as the reader are reading his thoughts and how he views things. All of his opinions, second guessings, paranoia, excuses, and the justifications he makes to hold up against his actions. Some are just so flabbergasting that it's humorous. if you're more special to him than others, then he will probably manipulate you so he stays around in your life. Not romantically, but always on your mind.

I gazed at her lovingly, but respectfully, the way I had done so many times and meant it. I even meant it then but only because I wanted it to be convincing. In some instances, the author uses blunt, embarrassing vulgarity to describe how badly he hurt women, which is visible present in the dialog sections. Do you think this was an exaggeration of his actions as a means to get extreme emotional response from the reader? The author was brutally honest and wrote in a manner that has been described by some as “beautifully horrid.” What are your thoughts on his style and presentation? According to Anonymous, “…I felt better when I saw someone else in pain.” Is the author relatable in this statement?

Why would anyone set out to break the heart someone they loved? Why would anyone intentionally cause that kind of pain? Why did people kill each other? There was Jenny. She was the one who threw the beer in my face. I was thrilled to have had a hand in causing so much rage. While the monograph was written in a “diary” style format, do you think the author takes advantage of self-reflection and critiques of his actions?

He is an unreliable narrator. At the beginning of the book, he is careful to tell us he has never physically hurt a woman. But this is not true. As his exploits grow increasingly sadistic, he both semi-rapes and beats up women, without pleasure or remorse. Questions submitted by Jennifer Johnson. Please feel free to use them, online or off, with attribution to Jennifer and LitLovers. Thanks.) This book though, this book explained it clear as day. In the beginning, I thought the anti-hero is a pile of human trash, now I just find him pitiful. Pathetic is the best word to use. Whether it was the fact that he was sexually assaulted or that he was neglected by his father as a child. I am terribly sorry, but that does not give you a free pass to have the freedom and break away other people’s hearts.

I wanted to know why people would set out to hurt other people, why people would hurt the people they love. Did anyone listen to the audiobook? How could we interpret this book differently if we listened to it instead of reading it? According to Anonymous, “Don’t worry, I got my comeuppance. That’s why I’m telling you this. Justice was done. Balance has been restored. The same thing happened to me, only worse. Worse because it happened to me.” Which Oxygen Thief is worse –Anonymous or Aisling?

Charm, date and listen. Have sex as if he loves them. Make them feel wanted and share their deepest secrets, desires and history. All those intimate moments, every little sigh, those gentle touches, the lovemaking, the confidences, the orgasms, the attempted orgasms, all mere fuel. The deeper in they were, the more beautiful they looked when the moment came. Does this book portray abusive relationships in an accurate manner? Are abusive relationships overly exaggerated?
