About this deal

A version of SU-800 with radio transmitter would be a good idea, though it would then not allow simultaneous use of on-camera flash (I don't believe a pass-through system would be mechanically sound; too much torque on the interfaces). Transmitters in the flashes themselves would allow that, but for some reason Nikon went with an auxiliary transmitter using a different port and did not include the transmitter in the SB-5000. With the bare flash pointed directly at my light meter, the V860II measured f/8.7 while the V1 measured f/8.8. Inside my 173cm umbrella, the V860II gave me f/8.7 and the V1 a solid f/8.5. Two-tenths of a stop never killed anyone. I'm really impressed with the size of the unit barely changing with these comparisons. Recycle Time Ok, if the SB-5000 is made in China, you got me there, but we don't know what the working conditions and salaries are in Nikon vs. Godox factories in China. I would expect that the employees within Nikon factories enjoy roughly similar working conditions independent of location, though of course this is just my guess and not based on inside knowledge. I do know that Nikon flashes are repairable and do get serviced.

The interface is indeed much easier to use and a clear improvement. As mentioned earlier, I’d love to see Godox add the ability to toggle on/off but it’s a minor thing. Indeed the interface is one of the main reasons I use the V1 now over the v860ii. Godox V1 vs Godox v860ii Material: the wheel and the buttons on my flash were particularly flimsy, and it could just be my model, but I found it to be a bit annoying when dialing in power on-camera because you have to use the wheel. Compatible not only with Nikon but also with Canon cameras, which makes it an ideal choice for multi-camera studios. I mentioned earlier that the modeling light deserves a spot on both the Pros and Cons list of this Godox V1 review. While the color output isn’t the best, it has definitely helped me out in tight spots, quite literally, when I have needed just the smallest bit of light. This is a great tool to have on hand for wedding ring shots, spotlighting one individual, and highlighting objects to give them a bit more pop. For the example above I needed a secondary light to hit the second level of bridal details on the bench but couldn’t place a flash at the right angle without getting it in the frame or being too harsh. 3. Mobile Light Stand Introducing a professional grade Godox V860III-N flash that provides stellar performance and has advanced features such as TTL, high-speed sync, LED modeling lamp, and wireless system that is a great suit with a Nikon camera. It’s equipped with a built-in 2.4G wireless X system that allows you to control up to 3 groups of flashes with different ratios. You will also enjoy energy efficiency thanks to Godox’s recycling time of 1.5s.

The battery is rated for up to 480 pops at full power, with a recycle time of 1.5 seconds. Decreasing the output power speeds up these numbers considerably. From experience, firing the flash at ¼ power or lower, it can shoot several times per second. Modifiers: while they attempted to give consumers the added bonus of offering magnetic modifiers for the round head, they missed the mark with the color accuracy (CTO gels are way too green) and the “dome” barely makes a difference. I instead attached a MagGrip to my V1 and use MagMod modifiers with it.

Distributing even light from centre to edge, providing natural and beautiful light effect V1 Round flash head’s light effect is softer and more even. The built-in LED modelling lamp is adjustable from 01 to 10 steps which help to visualize the effects. I use the SB5000s, beautifull made, fast recycletime, strong light aso but if I would consider to buy another Speedlight being in your shoes right now I'd buy two 860IIs plus the XPro trigger, resulting in a very capable system at 1/3 the price I payed for the two SB5000s. I put this down to the fact I use a spider holster. When walking, the speedlight dangles upside down and as I walk, the flash waggles on my waist. I guess over time the hotshoe just breaks. Typical first-party flashes in this price range—think Canon Speedlites and Nikon Speedlights—rely on AA batteries for power. The V1 has a removable lithium-ion cell, rated for 480 full-power flashes per charge. The V1 also features a powerful LED modeling light, a master-slave function and a beautiful user interface to create a high-tech and impressive flash gun. The V1 features HSS up to 1/8000th of a second to capture those incredibly crisp images for fast-moving action and TTL support. The V1 is compatible with the latest and leading camera brands such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic. Compatible with Godox's X-Series triggering system. glorious w/s of power: jumping from traditional speedlights that give us an average of 50 w/s, this is a huge advantage for event photographers that need the juice on their on-camera flash to last a couple of hours. And to get ahead, Nikon need to bring out a superior product since they can't compete with Godox on price.
