About this deal

Drying time after step 3 is dependent upon weather conditions. Drying may take longer in lower temperatures or higher humidity. If there’s any step that’s more skipped than wet sanding, it’s waiting. We get it, the first thing you want to do when you’re done restoring your headlights is hit the open road and see how much better they are! Resist the temptation. data-src="https://cdn.media.amplience.net/i/washford/haluk-car-cleaning-spot1-step3-process-winter21-1382x867" When you’re looking to restore your headlights, finding the right location to do it is key. You need to find somewhere with adequate lighting, but it shouldn’t be in direct sunlight. Not only that, but ensure that the temperatures are well above freezing for the best possible results. 2. Prepare the Headlight Many people have suggested a UV stable 2K paint. I cannot attest to the suitability of this but 2K paints contain some nasty compounds necessitating the need for protective gear. If 2K contains isocyanates like I suspect it does, then the protective gear is essential. You’ll see a lot of youtube clips with people saying, ‘use a mask’. This unqualified and typically casual off-hand statement is irresponsible. You must use a ‘suitable’ mask that is rated for that type of contaminant, which means charcoal filtered mask ‘at a minimum’ but ensure even that is rated for the task. Additionally, use eye protection. Not just safety goggles, but ‘sealed’ eye protection as these nasty chemicals are absorbed through your eyes. A full-face mask is another option instead of a separate mask and goggles.

Don’t be shy during the process and do your best to clean the entire headlight and not miss any spots. It might take a little longer, but it’s crucial to giving you consistent results throughout. 5. Dry the HeadlightYou want to do this until you see the fine scratches from the sandpaper everywhere. This completely removes the oxidation from the headlights, and your restoration kit will take care of the small scratches you create in the next steps. How Long Should a Headlight Assembly Last? Instead, wait 24-hours before taking your vehicle out on the road. This gives everything time to both dry and cure. If you hit the road too soon dirt, grime, oxygen, UV rays, and just about everything else can still work their way through the compound. Now that you finished preparing and wet sanding the headlight, it’s time to thoroughly clean it. Use the cleaning compound that comes with the restoration kit for the best results. If your kit doesn’t come with a cleaning compound, you can use some Dawn dish soap, but don’t expect it to give the same quality of results. To get the oxidation off these headlights we’re going to be using three different grits of sandpaper to sand down any oxidation we’re gonna start with a 500 grit.

While Restowipe provides a long-lasting solution, the duration of clarity restoration may vary based on environmental conditions and usage. The added UV clear coat is crucial for protecting the headlights from future damage, extending their restored clarity. 5. Can Restowipe be used on other vehicle surfaces? Using regular toothpaste rather than gel toothpaste, apply a layer of toothpaste to each headlight. Use a toothbrush and circular motions to rub the toothpaste into the plastic lenses to remove built-up grit and grime. Rinse with warm water and repeat the cleaning steps as necessary until you are happy with how the headlights look. Turtle Wax Headlight Lens Restorer Kit – Inexpensive and offers three restoration pads to clean and protect your lenses. This kit earns the number one spot for all-weather protection. Even better, while some products only buy you time until you need to replace the main assembly, a headlight restoration does more than that. With proper care, there’s a good chance that a headlight restoration kit will extend the life of the headlight assembly to match the life of your vehicle – so you’ll never need to replace it. You see them advertised all over the place, but headlight restoration kits are just a bandaid for a bigger problem. We don’t often consider how headlights are a crucial safety element to our car, and as they dull over time, this increases our risk of a crash because it decreases our visibility at night. Unfortunately for us, all of the headlight restoration kits you see out there really won’t fix the problem. Why our headlights turn yellow

apply to the headlight surface by wiping in one direction, similar to applying a coat of paint. Repeat on second headlight. One wipe should coat two headlights. Meguiar's headlight restoration kit is a little different from most of the others. After applying the cleaning solution, you use a mildly abrasive cleaning pad to haze the headlight evenly, clean it, then apply two coats of the aerosol protectant. Without the dust of dry sanding or muddy runoff of wet sanding, this is probably the neatest option available. The ultimate headlight restoration video in this video, I’ll show you how to restore your headlights to like-new condition using a
