About this deal

Marina quoted this book as a caption on the Electra Heart Tumblr: [15] "The plot is what the tragedy is there for! Not the character. And that is the most important thing of all" - Aristotle: "Poetics" Name [ ] A3: Warner Chappell Music Ltd. (PRS), Kasz Money Publishing (ASCAP), I LIKE TURTLES MUSIC. In October 2011, Marina said: "I will have a lot of songs on this album that probably won't go on it, I have too many now, so I'll be giving stuff away [to other artists]." [23] Later telling Planet Notion in 2012, she "ended up with" "about 22" songs. [24] One of the key things about the whole Electra Heart project is the visuals and artwork, and there is a clear theme developed throughout all the imagery, a theme of faded glamour and stylised grandeur with Marina prominent throughout. It is her direction and influence that runs through all the imagery, she says: " I just took a lot of care with the visual side of things. I know what I want this time and I have a very specific idea of who I am as an artist and what I want to portray myself as. ❞ The Archetypes and Su-Barbie-A were created for The Archetypes video project, and not meant for the album. [60] die Life [ ]

Jealousy was initially for The Family Jewels, and then for die Life, her initial second album, which caused confusion when she told fans it would be on her second album. [63] Non-Album [ ]Yes I think it [Radioactive] does [sound like a 2011-era hit single] and it's not something I've done before. If this was a year ago I don't mind saying now that I would have been, like, "no way am I doing this". I was not even up for working with anyone. This is why these two songs fit really well together actually, because 'Fear & Loathing' is about genuinely not feeling bitter or crazy or jealous any more (nervous laugh) and actually feeling a lot better off for it. And so I've been working with a lot of other people. ❞ Writing [ ] https://web.archive.org/web/20120319012948/http://www.planetnotion.com/2012/03/16/marina-the-diamonds In December 2012, Marina revealed she was working on a fan film titled "HEARTCORE" (sometimes stylised as "HEARTC♡RE"), which would document her tour across the USA. [45] A few months later, in March 2013, she shared a preview, [46] however, the documentary never came to fruition. https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/music/marina-diamandis-releases-cathartic-concept-album-1.371124/#ixzz3069fhHxl

Marina Diamandis' second studio album, Electra Heart, was a breakout moment for the Welsh singer-songwriter. Released ten years ago today, it was her first album to reach #1 in the U.K., Ireland, and Scotland. It was a hit in America, where the record was certified gold, thanks to hit singles "Primadonna," "Bubblegum Bitch," "How To Be A Heartbreaker" and "Teen Idle." It makes sense that critics didn’t like it. Diamandis mentioned that “the blueprint was a goth Britney Spears,” a star who was notoriously treated poorly by the media; Spears was dismissed, underestimated, and publicly trashed for her open sexuality. Electra Heart is aware of those consequences, so it is unsparing. The album is indulgently grotesque and desperate to provoke: “I want blood, guts, and angel cake/ I’m gonna puke it anyway,” she intones on “Teen Idle.” It’s also unapologetic: “I know I’ve got a big ego/ I really don’t know why it’s such a big deal, though,” she drawls on the buzzy “Primadonna.” It mixes artifice with earnestness; it gives in to female stereotypes while also breaking free of them. When telling NME about the concept of the album, she prefaced it by saying, “It’s a bit cringe.” But that’s the best part. Musically, the electronic dance-pop style of ELECTRA HEART represented a departure from Marina’s debut album, 2010's The Family Jewels, which featured a new wave sound. The new direction resonated in Europe as well as the U.S., where the album produced two platinum-certified singles – "Primadonna" and "How To Be A Heartbreaker" – and two gold-certified singles – "Teen Idle" and "Bubblegum Bitch." The latter – which was never officially released as a single – became an unexpected hit in 2021 thanks to the song’s popularity on TikTok, with over 3M unique videos created. It's not an alter ego. It's how an actor plays a part, a character they're playing. Whatever is happening to me is happening to her, because I am her. Though I definitely meant what I said about Electra Heart being the antithesis of me, it's not as primitive as that. The whole concept was inspired by realising an Aristotle book called Poetics.* It's about analysing Greek Tragedy, and I saw so many parallels between that and Hollywood that I realised old Hollywood is our modern-day mythology, people like Marilyn and Elvis. It's more about discovering a glittering underbelly of American society than, 'Oh, woe is me, I tried to get famous and it didn't work out how I thought, people CRITISED ME.' ❞ https://web.archive.org/web/20140426232146/http://www.planetnotion.com/2012/03/16/marina-the-diamonds/ Bump in the Night, whilst part of Stargate's Electra Heart sessions, the theme of ghosts and the line "calm down Marina" instead of "Electra" means the song wasn't intended for the album. Bubblegum Bitch and Electra Heart were written before Bump in the Night, and include the phrase Electra Heart.
