About this deal

These floorstanders prove that Wharfedale has the ability to mix it with the very best at more premium prices. The Evo 4.4 are entertaining and detailed with enough in the way of refinement to make them an excellent long-term choice. If you’re looking for floorstanders at this level, put these towers high on your shortlist. You won’t regret it.

Wharfedale Evo 4.1 Bookshelf Speakers are a 2 way standmount speaker that come with the same technologies as the 3 way Evo 4.4, 4.2, 4.2 and 4.C models. Fitted with 5" Woven Kevlar Bass Driver, and 55x80mm AMT HF driver system developed for high quality performance. Powerful Sound, Affordable Price This audio device was designed by Wharfedale, a British audio business. . Set Up in the Living Room The Evo4.1 speakers feature a weaved Kevlar woofer, for a naturally self-damped, yet lightweight material with reduced resonances. The Evo4.1 uses 5 inch woofers, for increased clarity. The custom designed Wharfedale computer aided optimisation technology allows for fine crossover tuning, resulting in a unified driver performance. AMT (Air Motion Transformer) Inverter: The Wharfedale EVO 4.1 Bookshelf speaker uses a specially designed 1,1875 "x 2,375" AMT (Air Motion Transformer) transducer for his own silky high frequency reproduction. The design of the AMT makes it possible to move a higher air volume during implementation than with a conventional soft dome tid. This higher pressure, which is stimulated by the principles of the AMT design, offers improved HF display of point sources with lower deformation properties than conventional tweeters. This is reflected in the stunning and pure brightness of the musical performance of all EVO 4.1 bookshelf speakers. There are some positives in the form of the passive radiator that keeps internal resonances inside the box. And decent directivity index allowing equalization. Bowers and Wilkins 606 - I was unimpressed with these speakers which seemed to have a rather mechanical treble, although the mids had the best detail of the speakers I listened to. Bass was decent but the imaging was flat Expectations are high when you go up from a few hundred dollars and are dealing with a small bookshelf speaker. I am afraid Wharfedale seems to have gone for marketing sound here rather than high fidelity. There is no excuse for that resonances in treble other than to please people in short-term listening and showroom setting. It is a shame as I think they could have corrected for it. There are some positives in the form of the passive radiator that keeps internal resonances inside the box. And decent directivity index allowing equalization.

The Wharfedale Evo4.1 bookshelf speakers incorporate technology derived from the flagship Elysian series, featuring a 2-way speaker design. A newly designed AMT (Air Motion Transformer) high frequency transducer replicates point-source audio, and is capable of moving large amounts of air for lower distortion and highly accurate musical reproduction. Measurements are compliant with latest speaker research into what can predict the speaker preference and is standardized in CEA/CTA-2034 ANSI specifications. Likewise listening tests are performed per research that shows mono listening is much more revealing of differences between speakers than stereo or multichannel. EVO4's AMT high-frequency unit produces sound in a completely different way than conventional dome testers. The ribbon technology uses a large, pleated, lightweight diaphragm, driven by a series of magnets. This is an extremely efficient and accurate method to create high-frequency sound, so that the EVO4 series has an open and smooth sounding top, without being too bright and hard. It's striking that when we start playing Dune in 5.1 on the Evo 4.4 surround system, it immediately prompts us to question whether there is any need for Dolby Atmos. Of course, there is, but it’s a great reminder that if you have quality speakers capable of detailed precision and fluid transparency, you don’t need to go all-in on rears and height channels to have a seriously immersive home system. Dali Opticon 2 - I liked these speakers. They had a rich 3D quality. Overally, thought, they didn't have the transperent quality of the Wharfedales

You possess more loudspeakers than you know. Consider your telephone, the television, a personal computer or iPad. Often a helping hand makes an impact. This is a bookshelf speaker. But, it isn't mandatory to place it on the shelf, any elevated table will suffice. Bookshelf speakers provide clear, sharp audio. In lots of spaces, they improvethe audio delivery too. They need significantly less space than floor speakers but should be deliberately placed (like at ear level) for the best output. Great Audio at a Great Price Tweeter resonance seems to also be responsible for distortion in the 2 to 4 kHz. So would have definitely been nice if that was fixed in the design. The EVO4 series The EVO4 series is located between the Wharfedales Award-winning Diamond 11 series and our future flagship, the Elysian speakers. This series has been developed next to the Elysian project and comes from the same extensive research and development. With characteristics that are rarely seen on products on this price, such as the significant, well-built cupboards, the beautifully curved sides and the refined driver arrangement. Like ELYSIAN, EVO4 models use the most advanced version of the unique Wharfedale Slot Loaded Profiled Port (SLPP) system. As with all other bass port designs, the woofer's rear radiation is not wasted but vented into the room. But that is where the similarities end. Note worthy is that there is nowhere really a comparison between the 4.2 and 4.1, so I wonder where this niche group draws their conclusions from.
