I don’t think this was bad but it just didn’t grab my attention or give me anything. I zoned out quite a bit too and didn't really feel anything for the characters or plot. There's not a right way to be magic, is there? Why are we keeping people out of the community who want to be there? He's one of us." You guys. Did you see the cover??? I'm obsessed with it. Seriously, take another look. It's gorgeous. The cover alone made me want to read this book and it did not disappoint. This book was so good! It's my first time reading this author and will not be my last. For example, all you might need to complete a spell is a candleand some fresh herbs. There are spells for improving your financial state, attracting a lover, and keeping and protecting your job. Since these all aim to improve your life, it is pretty difficult to mess that up. That means this is a great place to start for a beginner!This spell book not only describes what kind of instruments you need for your craft and how to cast the spell but also gives an accurate history of each spell, allowing you to learn the roots of each one as you cast it. This makes it an excellent spell book for beginners.

Lukens fashion, and the bond between the characters was fun. It's the epitome of the happy person likes grumpy person trope, but tropes are tropes for a reason and I'm always here for them when done well. There are maybe just a few cringey moments of being a product of its time so if you are kind of easily offended, tread lightly but remember that it is just fiction.THIRD EYE opening spell | 3rd eye surgery | third eye activation | activation | become a psychic | same day casting Rook has been told he doesn't have magic for all his life. He's determined to make a place for himself in the magical world anyways. He manages to get a job for an infamous and powerful sorceress, Antonia Hex. This literary work is an excellent read for those interested in spell casting. The plot and events that unfold are rooted in real-life scenarios, helping all readers (including witches) connect.

I'm generally impressed to see a novel from 1988 (?) that has a strong central person of color as love interest, and a girl willing to stand up for herself with a handsy boyfriend. More YA should have followed in this book's tiny footsteps. Though some of the more mystical elements seem alternately stereotypical and racist. So take them with a grain of late-80s salt I suppose? The twist was revealing and the reveal was for sure quite twisty to say the least but the climax was just a little flat.I don't want to give away too much of the plot because as I said...the shift in the plot saved this from being just some melodramatic teen soap opera or court drama. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it has been done to death and to be early in one's writing career at this point, Pike was going to be just another face in that crowd. If you love queer fantasy stories with fun magic systems, you absolutely have to read it. First off... DISCLAIMER: I love Christopher Pike's novels (with a few exceptions, but still). Usually, the more far-fetched his books are, the better I like them. This is one of those books.
