About this deal

The Moccamaster KBGV Select comes in nine colors so you can match it to the design of your kitchen. You can go for something neutral like brushed silver or make a statement with a bold candy apple red.

All three glass carafe models feature our uniquely engineered hotplate. The hotplate’s heating element is separate from the brewer’s boiling element. It is designed to roll heat into the coffee, maintaining a perfect holding temperature within the range of 175°F - 185°F and ensuring an even taste from the first cup to the last drop. The hotplate automatically shuts off after 100 minutes. One thing to consider is the capacity. The European-made Moccamaster KBGV Select has a 40-oz max capacity, compared to the 50-oz capacity of Ninja's coffee machines. We usually had a little less coffee in our cups with the Moccamaster than we were used to with the Ninja (which in the long run may be better for our health). CDT Grand: The CDT Grand is the perfect choice for professional-grade brewing in large quantities. Its flat-bottom brew basket allows for more consistent extraction and a rich, aromatic cup of coffee. It also features a double-wall insulation to keep brewed coffee or tea hot for hours. With its spacious capacity, it's the ideal carafe for customers who need to brew larger batches of coffee or tea for home and office entertaining.

A Dutch engineer and industrial designer by the name of Gerard-Clement Smit founded Technivorm in the Netherlands in 1964. He had mostly been designing ladders and such, but he came across a coffee maker he thought he could improve upon, and in 1968 created the first Moccamaster. So the KBGV model described above has a rectangular body column (KB), automatic drip stop (G) and volume control (V). The absence of a T means it has a glass carafe rather than thermal steel, and the absence of an H means it has two hotplate temperature settings (which you’d only find in Europe anyway). The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select brews some of the smoothest coffee we've ever had. We used Moccamaster-brand paper filters, spring water, and freshly-ground coffee. KBGT: This brewer is perfect for coffee drinkers who like to brew a full carafe and don't want the hassle of dealing with complicated processes. With its automatic brew basket stop, this brewer will stop the flow of coffee when the carafe is removed, making it easier and more convenient to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. It has a 1.25L / 40 oz capacity, so you'll have enough for everyone to enjoy. All you have to do is add your coffee grounds and water, then flip the switch – it's that easy!

Of course, the glass carafe is more breakable than steel. Technivorm’s glass is known to be particularly strong, but it can’t match the durability of steel. If you really want an 8-cup machine with glass, you may have to look to Europe for a KBS, because they are seldom available in the U.S. The hot plate stays at a steady temperature for over an hour-and-a-half. That makes it easy to grab a couple cups of coffee throughout the morning without worrying about it going cold. You want a medium-fine grind for your Moccamaster coffee. If you’ve ever ground for classic pour-over coffee or a Chemex, you want to go a little finer than that. Experiment slightly during your first few brews and you’ll soon get it right. How much coffee do you put in a Moccamaster? This is purely a cosmetic difference. They’re going to brew the same coffee, so if you have access to both, it’s just a matter of deciding which look you like best. Speaking of brew size, the Moccamaster KBGV Select can make either a full or half carafe — just toggle the switch next to the power button. This is a feature that's not present in the previous Moccamaster KBG iterations. Clever design. The KBGT can keep accurately boiled water at temperatures of 92-96 degrees for a consistent and ideal brewing temperature. An automatic drip stop function also restricts spillage from the brew basket when brewing or when the steel flask is removed for pouring.

A number of qualities set the Moccamaster apart, but from a pure coffee standpoint, what Smit really nailed was the time and temperature of the brew. Brew time for Moccamasters ranges from 4-8 minutes, and the temperature always lands in that scientifically proven sweet spot for coffee, between 196 and 205 F.Improved design on previous models that includes a thermal steel flask that can retain heat and keep coffee tasting good for an hour before going noticeably stale.
