About this deal

Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments Our final theme of the year, and sadly Featherby, is Lights Out. We explore the text The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas and produce formal writing, extended narrative and discussion texts. This theme is a transition theme as we prepare ourselves for the next stage of our learning at secondary school.

Our learning is thematic meaning each term we focus on one theme through our reading, writing and wider curriculum. By learning in this way, we deepen our understanding, become critical thinkers and develop both knowledge and skills in key areas. Each chapter had something to keep us reading and the simple experiments were fun to read about and then we would just do them at home. It’s all stuff you will have at home like lemon juice or wax for secret writings and coco powder for searching fingerprints, great fun. This theme is underpinned by the class read The Highway Man and The Landlady which we use to write suspense stories, play scripts and poetry. In history we learn about the period the Highway Man is set and the geography around travel building on our understanding of infrastructure from Operation Gadgetman. In science we recall and review our learning from the year and previous years ensuring that we are knowledgeable in all areas. Our art focus links in with R.E. through using different sketching techniques to produce sketches inspired by Hinduism. Beans's Dad is a bit of an eccentric. When he's not embarrassing her in front of her friends with his strange behaviour, he's in his workshop inventing ridiculous things like exploding shortbread (and irritating the neighbours while he's about it). But one day, Beans comes home from school to find that he has been kidnapped! She and her friends set out to find him using only their wits and the extraordinary 'Gadgetman Spy Kits' he has given them, and in the process uncover a sinister criminal conspiracy…

Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing -A thriller with lots of humour and suspense . . . A very accessible and exciting book for younger readers" ( Writeaway!)

This resource is a reading comprehension booklet that uses the text Operation Gadgetman as a text to answer higher level questions focused on comprehension, language choice and vocabulary. The booklet is aimed at UKS2 and is based on the well researched and highly effective recommendations in Doug Lemov’s Reading Reconsidered approach. This theme builds upon prior learning on South America, rainforest and Rivers, supporting us with developing our webs of knowledge in these areas. Our class read is Journey to The River Sea which we use to write stories, poetry and information reports. Our geography knowledge is developed on South America by learning about the physical features of the landscape including the rivers and rainforest. Our art focus is on producing prints of leaves and plants in the style of Frida Kahlo and developing our sketching skills. In science we return to electricity and look at equity and experiments on compound and more advanced circuits. The whole story about a father who is a great inventor, but later gets kidnapped and his very much intelligent and adventurous daughter trying to rescue him is entertaining. There is a great description and the plot doesn't drag on. Many parts are also expected, but I think the part about the ATM invention was the best.
