About this deal

If color accuracy is of high importance, keep in mind that UltraMax 400 is daylight balanced (5500K). So, if you’re shooting it in different light sources, like mixed light, the colors will be off. This is normal and expected behavior. In most cases, a well exposed photo taken in decent lighting conditions on Ultramax shouldn’t produce much grain visible to the naked eye. All of this, means versatility. No matter what your subject, no matter what camera you’re using, and no matter the light, Kodak Ultramax 400 should fit your application. During the past year I’ve used it at night and by a blisteringly sunlit pool; on a foggy sail across Vineyard Sound and at a kid’s indoor birthday party. I’ve shot dogs in full gallop, and horses refusing to do so. I’ve successfully zipped it through the autofocus speed machine that is Nikon’s F4, and painstakingly ratcheted it across the film gate of an old-as-dirt Contax. Now this is absolutely a matter of preference, but some folks actually like the look of the grain that presents itself in darker photos.

That’s not me describing it as merely not bad, by the way. What I mean is some people not liking it doesn’t mean it’s objectively bad. Personal Style: Consider the look you want to achieve in your photographs. If you prefer images with high contrast and vivid colors, Kodak Ultramax may be the better choice for you. If you prefer natural color reproduction and good skin tones, Kodak Gold may be the better choice.Kodak GC 135-36 35mm Colour Print Film lets you take your pictures to the next level. Its proprietary technology delivers the world's most convenient 400-speed film, so you can capture more of your precious moments. Whether your subjects are still or moving fast, in sunlight or dim light, GC 400 gives you great results. If you currently use 100 or 200-speed film, switching to this amazingly adaptable film will improve up to 25 percent of the pictures you take.

Kodak Gold is available in 120 film so you now have the option to shoot this amazingly popular emulsion in either (or both) 35mm or 120! Ultramax is currently only available as a 35mm film. One thing to note is skin tones may come out a little too yellow if you overexpose. With the wide exposure latitude though, you should be safe from this if you’re shooting at box speed and with a camera with a working light meter. Images made on Eastman Double X tend to have a gritty, stark overall tone. Under controlled lighting and with precise exposure and filter usage this film can exhibit the smooth, beautiful midtones it was formulated for, but in high contrast situations this film easily takes shadows and highlights right to the edge, crushing shadows and blowing highlights left and right. It’s not a film for every situation, but rewards discretion and meticulous shooting with contrasty, beautiful images. A good number of the images I got with Ultramax were shot in the morning and afternoon sun, and the film reacted to that with good contrast. The sharpness is also nothing to complain about, bearing in mind what we’re shooting with here.If you want to find more accessories to use for your photography, I’ve created a list of everything I actually use!
