About this deal

Step #1: Measure the distance the evenly spaced dividers will be spanning (e.g., from post to post, the bottom of the top shelf to the top of the bottom shelf, etc.). Dividing a span of wood into several equal parts is a common task for any woodworking, carpentry, or construction application, but dividing mathematically or with calipers is difficult. Use the DCT 2-Foot Equal Distance Divider Hole Layout Tool to easily mark 8 equally spaced sections on any surface. You can specify the exact distance between the sections which allows for precise measurements without complicated calculations. This equidistant layout divider has 8 arms that correspond to the area you are marking, each of which is mounted on 2 joints in the moving section of the tool. Whenever the moving section of the tool lengthens or shortens, the arms retain uniform spacing throughout the movement. Position the arms at any distance between 3/4 to 4 inches to mark up to 2 feet total. Find Your Center]: Save time by using the DCT 2-Foot Centering Ruler Equal Spacing Divider Tool to visually design and mark your project into equally divided parts and produce repeatable measurements Blue Loctite (I like blue over red Loctite for this in case we need to adjust the tension or change the design)

Subtract the end gap widths from space width before making your selections. For example, if the space width is 1219 and if you want end gaps of 12 for fasteners, enter 1195 for space width (1219 - 12 - 12 = 1195). If Metric is selected in Step #1, enter the distance between the two outer boundaries (posts, etc.), then enter the actual width of each divider. You use whatever metric measurement you prefer, though millimeters will be the most precise. Just be sure to use the same measurement for the space width and the divider width. Step #3 In the fabrication of wood or structural steel component spacing may be required and determined by the fabricator.Units: The math is unit-less in that if all inch units are used the result is in inches and if all mm al used the the answers are given in mm. Also, meters, angstroms, or whatever makes you happy is used just keep the length units consistant. Score! Turns out Mikeasaurus has an Instructable for a similar version of the tool I'm after! https://www.instructables.com/id/Equidistant-Layou...

Step #6: Divide the result in Step #5 by the number of dividers plus one (10 dividers will result in 11 spaces). This will leave you with the width of the equal spaces.I've also included pictures of the layout part of the assembly process, I know pictures help me more than text sometimes. OK, that's it for today. Thanks for reading along with me as I learned how this divider tool worked and please consider voting for this Instructable in the Remix Contest! V2 eliminated the clash, but the divider body ended up a little weaker than I'd like in the indent area. An then... I found out there is a tool that can evenly space things 4 you! I must have one of these... Step #7: Add the space width (Step #6) to the divider width (Step #2) to get the on-center measurement needed to mark the dividers' placement.

Fits Any Application]: 8 marking notch points on each side (16 total); Extends to 24 inches (61 cm) with marking notches from 4 to 24 inches (10.2-61 cm); 24.75 inch (62.9 cm) overall fully extended length with 3.6 inches (9.1 cm) maximum distance between points Step #5: Subtract the total divider width (14 in Step #4) from the total space width (48 in Step #1) to get a total space width of 34 decimal inches (48 - 14 = 34). Self - Why can't the tip of the divider just be a normal triangle? Answer - Dear Self, The tip has a straight edge so you can draw a straight line to mark on your workpiece. Duh... IMPORTANT: Numeric entry fields must not contain dollar signs, percent signs, commas, spaces, etc. (only digits 0-9 and decimal points are allowed). With this observation, I changed directions from a sliding style divider tool to a pivoting style divider tool. This doesn't look as neat, isn't as fun to use, isn't as clean to mark intervals since the tip is canted - but it removed a little more tolerance and it reduced the number of parts to assemble so we'll call it a win.Combine the clever design, top notch materials and the extreme attention to detail and you get a tool that you will love to use. Version 1 was cut using cardboard. It mostly worked... The chicago screws fit correctly and the tool articulation was smooth, but the tool wouldn't close all the way due to the chicago screws hitting the indent on the pointer leg. Enter the maximum number of dividers you want to be included in the generated list of even spacing options. Step #4 In the pivoting version this is less of a thing since the tips angle sideways instead of slide up and down. So sometimes I want to be lazy and don't want to math when laying out a project. Judge away, but you know you've been there too...
