About this deal

The type and brand of coffee filter that you use can easily be as important to the end taste of your coffee as the coffeemaker or water that is used. While your coffeemaker may dictate the shape of filter that you need to use, there usually remain many options that you need to choose from that can influence the flavor of your coffee. The correct size of filter to use is dictated by the size of the filter holder within your coffeemaker.

Typically, basket filters fit all six to twelve cup basket style coffeemakers. There are also “Junior” size baskets which are available for four to six cup coffeemakers. Potentially Healthier -- Scientific studies have indicated that paper coffee filters play a crucial role in eliminating the cholesterol raising factor of coffee. Permanent filters, on the other hand, allow the cholesterol raising oils to filter into the cup.In general, cone shaped holders with cone shaped filters are recommended as the design ensures optimal coffee saturation and extraction versus basket shaped holders/filters.

More Sanitary -- Paper filters are used only once. Permanent filters are used repeatedly for years and often develop build-up after repeated use.Melitta coffee filters are quite different from other brands, patented with three grades of paper in every filter and extra perforations in the higher levels; this creates three distinct aroma zones with advanced multi-layer filtration to get the best results from whatever grounds you are using: Natural brown filters are not processed to achieve a whiter color. With premium filter paper, such as those by Melitta, there is no difference in taste from using white versus natural brown versus bamboo. The choice is only a matter of preference.

I started by blaming an unannounced change in the blend of coffee beans, but realised that the coffee was actually from the same can as before! So I continued by assuming that I had put in either too little coffee or too much milk and tried again. However, after 4 such experiments, I found that I needed to put in TWICE as much coffee to get even a remotely acceptable cup (still without the full flavour I appreciate and am accustomed to). These filters are a standard size that fit most filter coffee machines no matter what brand, and they’re ideal for any 8-10 cup filter coffee jug.To keep your coffee tasting flawless, regular cleaning and descaling is essential. Many of our filter coffee machines have descaling displays and descaling programmes. These alert you when you need to carry out a descale of the machine. By regularly descaling your filter coffee machine you can prolong its life and ensure the perfect tasting brew every time. When making 1-3 large cups in our Braun Cafe House machine, using the same filter ground Colombian dark roast coffee (from Costco) as always, the result was disgustingly weak! The shape of the filter that you need to use is dictated by the shape of the filter holder within your coffeemaker. There are two different shapes of holders/filters: Cone (round top gradually tapering down to the bottom) and Basket (circular holder/filter with a flat bottom). Finer grind coffees have a larger surface area exposed to the water so it provides a richer cup of coffee. Some permanent filters also transfer foreign taste and odor to your coffee. Our filter coffee machines vary in capacity to suit the needs of all households, some can produce up to 10 cups of coffee for busier households, others have a smaller capacity making them ideal for compact kitchens.
