About this deal

I can see how an older child might need something a little more substantial, but for small children (and my extremely-literal son), this is really well done book. I was particularly drawn to this title because it can be tailored to a variety of religious belief systems. Our lives are mostly longer than those of butterflies, shorter than those of trees, but no matter how long we live, we are also beautiful and fragile creatures. I feel that this book is really the most beautiful and sensitive way to explain life and death to a child.

It is very matter-of-fact, which I think is the best approach and is accompanied by appealing illustrations. This book didn't focus on sadness or fear, rather it focused on how normal this process is and how every living thing will experience death at some point. At first, they are bright and quick, but as time passes they begin to slow down, until finally they can go no further. In this tender and indispensable picture book children will discover-*The cycle of life and death, explained in a comforting and child-friendly manner*Empathy and emotional intelligence as they explore sensitive yet significant aspects of life*How to engage in thoughtful conversations with adults, fostering understanding and openness*Resilience building strategies to cope gracefully with life's inevitable changes and transitions*Appreciation for the present moment, finding joy in life's simple yet profound pleasures*How to find comfort and reassurance in understanding life and death as a serene and natural processDiscussing lifecycles in a way that is comprehensible and comforting for young readers, Beginnings and Endings with Lifetimes in Between is an essential resource to explain the concept of life and death to children in a sensitive and understandable manner. In 1986, he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen medal for his contribution to children's literature. Here is the very real story of one woman’s life with rescue animals, and in particular, Celeste — a beloved Canine who found a home in the author’s heart and never left. Sadly the print result is under their quality level, but I think it's a problem of how the originals were scanned/digitalized. Highly recommend for the death of a pet or loved one, it's a difficult topic but this book has definitely helped.

The illustrations by Robert Ingpen are, of course, divine and I’d do just about anything to own one of the original illustrations. I don't think it's the only book that you will want, and there are others that better explain the emotions of grief. He has written and/or illustrated more than 100 books including versions of The Wind in the Willows, The Jungle Book, A Christmas Carol, and Treasure Island. Eden…I know you have an army of people around you – and little old me has you in my thoughts and prayers.

especially if you have a little one that has already started to think about it (because of a loss of a loved one or a pet). It is a powerful book, presenting a way for a child--and her grandmother-- to comprehend the cycle of life and death. In a simple, matter of fact approach you are taken through the life cycles of different creatures - starting with smaller creatures and working up to more complex animals including humans. It talked about how plants, animals, fish, insects, birds, and humans all have a period of lifetime, then they die.Later we could talk about our hopes and fears, but during the book we felt the calm rythm of the mystery of life.

This book talks about death in all living things in a matter of fact manner and helped us have deeper conversations too. Once children have moved beyond self to include the awareness of another, they will benefit from the gentle scaffolding of the concept. I highly recommend the book, that makes one of the most difficult topic in life, natural, real and much more easy to explain. Lifetimes ~ A Beautiful Way to Explain Life and Death to Children is a book I have read and used many times with children. I haven't actually brought myself to read it to her yet but I suppose that's what this book is trying to overcome, our fear of dying and our subsequent passing on of this fear to our children.Despite many subsequent imitations, I believe my father's book remains clearly the best, and I am sure he would also have been proud to see that it has helped so many people. A lot of books on this topic are targeted for bereaved children, which doesn't apply to my son, he just has questions and worries.
