About this deal

The Airfly Duo can connect to two sets of headphones at one time, just like the Pro, but unlike the Pro, with just a few hours of charge, the device can last for over 20 hours! The only disadvantage to the Airfly Duo is that it does not come equipped with an audio in option. That means you cannot play audio from your phone to a speaker, car stereo, or various other devices like you can with the Pro. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX Low Latency Codecs so if your Bluetooth headphones or earphones support Bluetooth 5.0, you won’t get any audio latency when playing games or watching movies with the Airfly Pro.

Twelve South AirFly Pro Deluxe Bluetooth Transmitter - Apple

AirPods were clearly the inspiration for Twelve South’s designers. AirFly Pro has the rounded corners and edges of Apple’s earbuds. It’s all smooth and shiny white plastic, just like the AirPods case. There’s a removable cover for the plug that includes a loop so you can attach the AirFly Pro to your keys, but be careful using it: If the cover pops off, you’ve lost this accessory. Maybe keep it in a bag instead. When it comes time to charge up AirFly Pro, you'll get a notification in the form of an amber blinking light. It'll flash three times to let you know its running low on juice. It comes with a charging cable (USB-A-to-USB-C) but the good news is it supports USB-C charging, so any one of the USB-C cables you have lying around will juice it up. Although the product is being sold by Apple, it works with every brand of wireless headphones, not just Airpods. Once you have plugged it in, you will simply need to connect the Duo via Bluetooth to your wireless headphones of choice to enjoy listening to your favorite audio entertainment. In my testing, the AirFly Pro is easy to use and reliable. It had no problems connecting to any of the Bluetooth devices I tried. That includes multiple pairs of headphones, and a speaker too. The battery is rechargeable via USB Type-C and can provide up to 16+ hours battery life in a single charge (depends on usage, of course). The main button is used to turn the Airfly Pro on and off, but there is also a toggle which will set the device into either Transmit or Receive Audio mode.

Twelve South AirFly Pro review: Connect AirPods to almost Twelve South AirFly Pro review: Connect AirPods to almost

Twelve South has included a cap for the AirFly Pro that has a small key ring on it. I love this little addition because I can add it to my keychain and always have my AirFly Pro with me wherever I go. You never know when you're going to want to connect to the audio in a car. There’s plenty to love about the AirFly Duo. From its small and compact size, including the handy drawstring pouch, to the ease in connecting the device to your favorite headphones, it’s a terrific product that travelers should be excited to try out. AirFly Pro lets you toggle between Transmission (TX) and Receiver (RX) modes. With TX mode, you can wirelessly stream audio to any wired speaker from your device. With RX mode, you can enjoy audio from any audio-out device directly into your earphones. The device has a small keyring that you can attach to your keyring. What we like about AirFly Pro AirFly Pro, according to Twelve South, also sports a hefty 16-hour battery life. I have not had the opportunity to max out the battery life to test these claims, but I can tell you that I wore out my AirPods Pro twice while AirFly Pro kept ongoing. This accessory is short range, and you’ll have to be very careful to not accidentally leave it behind, but Twelve South created something very useful. PricingDid I mention that AirFly Pro has a super long battery life? Twelve South claims 16 hours. I spoke with a representative at Twelve South and was told it was tested against some of the longest non-stop flights (around 17 hours), and made it through with flying colors. You'll be able to use a lot of different types of Bluetooth headphones that will run out of battery life before the AirFly Pro does. I tested this out with my S.O. and a multiplayer game on Nintendo Switch. Each of us wearing our own set of headphones could play a game on the Switch with the AirFly Pro. There was a slight audio latency when I tested Airfly Pro (about half a second or so) while watching the in-flight movies. The delay was not huge and might not be a big deal to some, but I could notice it. This is because I was using Bose QC35 II which has a Bluetooth 4.1 (doh, silly me). Airfly Pro actually supports Bluetooth 5.0 aptX Low Latency which will cut this latency to 1ms, almost negligible. As you now know, Twelve South created the Airfly Pro so that consumers can enjoy listening to audio from devices that do not typically connect to wireless headphones. What we particularly loved about the AirFly Duo is the fact that you can share audio with your travel partner. Because the device can be connected to two wireless Bluetooth devices at the same time, you and your travel partner can simultaneously watch the same movie in flight. Say goodbye to starting and pausing a film on your individual screens at the exact same time — the AirFly Duo ensures you stay in sync during your film or TV show.
