About this deal

Looking at the above numbers (including the ply #), Who Gives A Crap’s cost is clearly on par with the popular and premium toilet papers out there today.

So, first we tried Sustainable Earth by Staples Bathroom Tissue, and it wasn’t a success. It wasn’t at the quality of public washroom toilet paper but it was close. It’s 2-ply, whereas both of Who Gives A Crap’s toilet papers are 3-ply, and you can really tell the difference. Where the product is made also has an impact — a lot of bamboo is grown in China and some bamboo toilet paper is subsequently manufactured in China. This can impact the eco-credentials depending on how the the product is then transported, as air-freighted items have a high carbon footprint compared to other methods of transport. The sun bleaches away stains, toothpaste has bleaching agents to whiten your teeth, and washing powder contains sodium percarbonate (oxygen bleach) to whiten your clothes. This example shows that it’s not possible to generalise about the carbon impact of a particular material and that the specifics of production matter. To add to the complexity, some argue that the collection of waste paper shouldn’t be included in the calculation of recycled paper’s carbon footprint as it would be collected and taken to landfill anyway. The aim of its certification scheme is to confirm that forests are managed in ways that preserve biodiversity and benefit the lives of local people while remaining economically viable. The FSC has been subject to criticism over many years for the failings of its certification system, with multiple scandals involving certified wood coming from illegal or harmful sources. Previously they were wrapped in paper, but all wrappers are now being made from bamboo making Who Gives A Crap even more forest-friendly. I’ve read where some people believe otherwise, but I really, truthfully think the quality of their toilet paper is so much better. Who Gives A Crap vs “traditional” toilet paper brands

Toilet paper was one of the first “zero waste” swaps we made when we started living zero waste. We know that technically, using a non-reusable product like toilet paper isn’t “zero” waste. But living zero waste for us means being more mindful of our choices, so that we can reduce our impact on the environment. While the big brands hadn’t reduced their virgin fibre use, a number of smaller companies had launched new products made from recycled fibre or alternative sustainable materials. We found the same. As well as recycling or composting the wrapper, you could even save it and reuse for wrapping a gift or something similar. But it has been found that BPA absorbed through the skin takes longer to excrete (at least twice as long, but possibly more). As you can read in my Who Gives A Crap review, they are a good, sustainable company making recycled and bamboo toilet paper. But I didn’t find their product as good, plus it comes with a heavier carbon footprint. Truthfully, after having used them for many months I actually like the feel of Who Give’s A Crap’s toilet paper so much more. Price of Who Gives A Crap toilet papers

The FSC describes itself as an NGO dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. Sadly, we don’t have space for all the comments but below are a few of our favourites. We hope you feel inspired.

Which brands sell what type of toilet roll?

In the village I was staying in, most people only had a hole in the ground outside their homes to do their business, with no roof or walls. In our honest opinions, we think Who Gives A Crap’s toilet paper (both the 100% recycled and bamboo) are on par with the quality of the toilet paper made by the leading “traditional” toilet paper brands. It’s 2023 and there are quite a few sustainable toilet paper brands with very similar ethics. Some are slightly better than others but none of them compare to Who Gives A Crap when it comes to charitable giving.
