About this deal

In the Nike Metcon 7, I’ve found that the shoe’s overall performance feels a bit better for most athletic movements than the Nike Metcon 6. Basically, I think the Nike Metcon 7 does a better job of walking the line between being stable for lifting and responsive and comfortable for HIIT training and similar activities.

The Nike Metcon 6’s overall stability hinders its running, especially for anyone who doesn’t have a forefoot running style. The heels tend to beat up athletes that don’t run more on their forefeet. I didn’t include a picture, but the drop-in midsole and hyperlifts appear to be the same shape, material, and performance. There are just a few small cosmetic differences. Like weightlifting shoes, cross-training shoes are designed with purpose and functionality. If you’re thinking they’re just regular sneakers with a few extra bells and whistles, hold that thought for one second while we cover some of the construction differences. From there it should be pretty clear why they’re different from your standard sneaker. Outer Construction The Nike Metcon 6 performs really well in lifting settings. The outsole and midsole are plenty stable for supporting a variety of loads and I’ve squatted up to 365 lbs in this model with no issues with compression and have deadlifted up to 475 lbs. The removable midsole of the shoe (that’s the part between the outsole and your foot – is made from 2 kinds of foam.

Can You Lift Weights in the Nike Metcon 6?

You could describe cross-training shoes as the decathletes of the shoe world. They’re pretty good at everything and work across many modalities. If you’re training three to five times per week and mixing it up with cardio and weights, then look no further than the cross-trainers in this list. Those who climbed the rope in the Metcon 6 claim it their “absolute favorite” and “the best rope climbing shoe out there.” All of this, thanks to the large side panels with grooves that are “awesome for gripping.” Continuing with the luggage and travel theme – there’s a bright neon green luggage tag – with the Metcon M emblazoned on it. The Nike Metcon 6 X pays homage to classic Metcon colorways – what a crazy looking shoe! This will be a collector’s item for sure as it is only be made in very limited quantities. The heel-to-toe offset in cross-trainers can vary pretty greatly, but generally, 2mm-8mm is the norm for these shoes.

Since the Nike Metcon 7 is so new, the only real prospective issue I could see with this model’s durability is the front midsole breaking down due to lateral movements. At times, foam midsoles can be prone to fraying a bit with excessive lateral friction from the ground caused by sharp lateral movements. Nike Metcon 6 Vs Nike Metcon 7 Sizing Another cool cross-training shoe construction perk worth noting is the tech that comes in certain models. For this list, we consider any unique construction characteristic as tech for the shoe itself. Tech could be considered the signature features in shoes like the Flyknit and Flywire offered in Nike shoes or the Flexweave in Reebok’s models. Also, things like TPU inserts and extended midsoles could also be considered tech. Final Word Find out more about the Nike Metcon 6 AMP shoes in our in-depth article. Nike Metcon 6 Premium Review – In Summary For those coming from the even earlier version, experts highly recommend updating to the Metcon 6. Here are some of the reasons why those experts who compared these models prefer the 6:Those with wider feet find the trainer a bit tight and recommend trying half-a-size up, BUT “if you have the Nike Metcon 5 and you are OK with the fit and feel – get the same size.” While our tester notes the Trainer is “spot on” for cross-training, they didn’t find them to be suitable for casual activities off the mat. We’re also not attracted to the no-frills, utilitarian look of the Trainer, though your taste may vary. It helps that they have options to fit nearly anyone’s color preference. Over the course of my training sessions, there are three main pros that I’ve found training with the Nike Metcon 6.

The fit was true to size- I went ½ size smaller than my Nike running shoes and the width and length felt perfect. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy running in the Metcon 6… but I actually didn’t mind it. For short bursts (less than 5 minutes or so at a time, the Metcon 6 is more than fit for purpose. Metcon workouts combine cardio and strength — as well as both aerobic and anaerobic exercises — to push your body to its limits in a well-rounded way. Heel height is something that can dramatically influence your training, especially if you’re more into weightlifting. An elevated heel can help support mobility and give a stable base to rely on during training. A planted stable foot is a must for athletes — especially when moving heavy weight — so a more elevated heel can (at times) help a lifter with their training. Jake Boly tests some top cross-training shoes for Barbend In fact, the heel is so firm and dense, these shoes make a “clip-clop” sound when you walk – Just like Oly lifters! (But not nearly as loud).

From here you can see that the Nano X is taller, but more importantly – look at the toe area – it’s much wider. This is a very comfortable shoe for those with wider feet. THe NIke Metcon 6 looks good and carries forward all my favorite parts of the Nike Metcon 5. The breathable upper is a nice change too – I workout in Florida – in a garage with no A/C. Another pro to the Nike Metcon 6 is the split insole construction. The insole in this model features two different materials and basically from the mid-foot to the forefoot, you’ll have a more responsive insole material, then from mid-foot to the heel, you’ll have a much more stable material. This is great for lifting heavy. That’s the difference between the Nike Metcon 6 and the Nike Metcon 6 AMP (or the FlyEase, or the Premium?)
