Madame Pamplemousse and the Time-Travelling Café Madame Pamplemousse and the Time-Travelling Café

In Paris there is a cafe, elegantly furnished with polished wooden tables and an awning of striped gold and green, whose walls are filled with drinks such as Green Fairy Liqueur, Mermaid Madeira and Red Devil Lemonade. And sitting on the bar is a large, silver, steam-powered espresso coffee machine. The cafe is owned by Monsieur Moutarde, and Monsieur Moutarde has made the most extraordinary discovery. With the help of his friend, Madame Pamplemousse, he has created a time travel machine (for that is what the expresso coffee machine is). Lightly written and whimsical, this is a delightful fantasy set in the amazing Café of Lost Time in Paris which has its own time-travelling machine disguised as an espresso coffee maker. When Madeline’s friend Madame Pamplemousse mysteriously disappears she is guided to the café and soon Madeline, Madam Pamplemousse and her cat Camembert are off on a trip into the past to capture the drool of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a tear from a Sphinx which, they hope, will save Paris. This is the second novel featuring the delightful Madame P.

Reviews

Madeleine is forced to work every summer in her mean uncle’s restaurant in Paris while her parents vacation. She is a great cook, but her jealous uncle makes her wash dishes instead. C'est une boutique pleine de magie et de féérie que Madeleine va découvrir pour notre plus grand plaisir.

[8] Many of the novels begin with a request from the Director to Pamplemousse to undertake some extracurricular activity − for the benefit of Leclercq, Le Guide or even La France − from which extravagant complications ensue. [9] Living in Asia was very rewarding for me: I learned new techniques that I put into practice daily in my creations.
