About this deal

Bruno, Chief of Police in a small French town, (where everyone knows your name and business) is a very likeable guy with varied interests. The murder mystery carries on throughout the story, but, in this case, the majority of the story revolved around all the contingency events. Bruno hosts dinner for his friends, and explains what he is cooking, recipes, wines that go with dinner, Bruno's dog has puppies, and he talks about who he might give two puppies to, Bruno is a volunteer fire fighter, and you guessed it, there is a big forest fire (talks about global warming too). I have read the first three novels in this series and jumping forward to the 14th was not a problem. Many of the characters from previous books are involved in this story with the exception of Gigi, the faithful basset hound belonging to Bruno. However, Bruno has a newer dog, another basset hound called Balzac. Bruno’s investigation deepens. He, JJ and Isabelle are leading the investigation. The tendrils of this case are spreading everywhere. I learnt quite a lot from this story too. In particular, Walker touches the history of the Cold War, the Rosenholz Dossier, the master list of all Stasi Intelligence agents, espionage and politics.

Martin Walker’s strength lies in his ability to blend fiction with historical facts within his mystery. He unwinds elements of spying during the Cold War, tensions between rival espionage services and the lingering effects these activities have on current international relations. Usually, the voiceover stuff that I do is playful and light. This was a lot of screaming and running and yelling,” Paul says. “There’s also some humor in it as well, so I would say that this was a lot more exhausting than some of the other voiceover stuff that I had been a part of, emotionally ... Any time that you’re in a room by yourself and you have to jog in place and act out of breath or you’re screaming at the void, is hilarious. You can’t help but stop and laugh at yourself during it ... They really wanted to be creative with it and utilize that sound design and, again, really take people on a journey.” When Bruno isn't policing, his favorite thing to do is to cook gourmet meals for all his friends, using the produce from his garden. He finds plenty of occasions to do that during his investigation of The Coldest Case. For thirty years, Bruno's boss, Chief of Detectives Jalipeau, known as J-J, has been obsessed with his first case. It was never solved and Bruno knows that this failure continues to haunt J-J. A young male body was found in the woods near St Denis and never identified. For all these years, J-J has kept the skull as a reminder. He calls him 'Oscar'. In The Coldest Case, Bruno helps solve the mystery of a skull found 30 years ago. In Martin's familiar writing style, this is another soft mystery. There are the joys of rural life, Bruno's elderly but trusty Land Rover, lots of food and wine, plenty of gardening tips plus a small measure of romance.QUAH: "The Coldest Case In Laramie" isn't quite a conventional true crime story. It certainly doesn't want to be. Even the creators explicitly insist the podcast is not a case of whodunit. Instead, the show is best described as an extensive accounting of what happens when the confusion around a horrific crime meets a gravitational pull for closure - it's a mess. At the heart of "The Coldest Case In Laramie" is an interest in the unreliability of memory and the slipperiness of truth. So this is just terrible. I'm trying to milk my audible free trial for all its worth since it's ending soon and I figured, why not this? I love crime thrillers. It's a short audiobook with less than 4 hours. I was on long drive home. It has star-studded cast of Aaron Paul, Krysten Ritter and Alexis Bledel. So, this should be good right? a b c d Brooks, Tim; Earle Marsh (2007). Bruno’s investigation leads him to discover that the dead man (now skeleton), was named Max. Max is the victim, Henri is the main suspect. Max and Henri were dating two girls, one of whom is still alive. Henri is identified, not only by the surviving woman, but several others as well. I laughed out loud when he went into his garden and found a summer truffle in moments for breakfast... And when the emergency strikes he finds 2 (count them !) solutions that make a huge difference to the outcome as well as come up with a series of radical improvements to the disaster plan.

The writing itself isn't bad, but the story is a bit far-fetched too even though it's based on fact (I still own a bean bag - long story - given to me by a French spy from when I worked at TI France in the early 80's ). Tracie Thoms as Kat Miller, a narcotics detective who later joins as a homicide detective (Seasons 3–7). Visiting the famous pre-history museum in nearby Les Eyzies, Bruno sees some amazingly life-like heads expertly reconstructed from ancient skulls. He suggests performing a similar reconstruction on Oscar as a first step towards at last identifying him. An expert is hired to start the reconstruction and the search for Oscar's killer begins again in earnest. While Ritter is now synonymous with another famous detective, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Paul didn’t ask her for any crime-solving tips. I thoroughly enjoyed The Coldest Case which is the usual mix of investigation and Bruno’s life with his friends. It is told entirely from Bruno’s point of view so the reader gets to live his life alongside him, be it policing, cooking or socialising. There is no difference as they all blend seamlessly together with much intermingling.Rooney, Kat (March 15, 2023). "Serial's Latest Is a Familiar Podcast About an Unsolved Murder". Podcast Review.
