I designed the treasure hunt map and then printed it on a piece of paper that was dyed with tea like we did with the invitations. Connor used our INSTAX camera that we already had and a magnifying glass as props. We used these props in our photo booth at the party as well. Oh my goodness, this dinosaur party was such a fun one to plan and attend! It is hard to imagine Connor is already three. He is at a fun age now where he not only understands but appreciates and is excited about his birthday party. It was kind of a party fail because nobody could break it except Brent and even then it took him several times before he ended up hitting the head off it in a somewhat disturbing manner. Ha.
He really got into character this year and we played pretend that we were explorers hunting for dinosaurs in the jungle (the flowerbed behind my parent’s pool) while I took photos of our adventure with our Canon EOS REBEL. Three-Rex Birthday Party Invitations I recycled jars I already had to hold chocolate candies and each guest was given a treat box to fill up with desserts before they left. You can use small plastic dinosaur toys on the top of your three-rex cake (be sure to wash them well before using). You could also use small plastic plants or break up a larger plastic fern for decoration. In the photos below you can see what the cake looks like if you use some mini-eggs to look like a dinosaur egg cake topper. Plush dinos - we also displayed a few plush dinosaurs around the house. They are the perfect touch to bring the whole look together. We went with medium-sized ones from Ikea. Balloons - This year, we went with a luxe style balloon garland for the dessert table, and helium balloons in the party/craft room. Mousse cups - These nutella mousse cupsare also great to include in the dessert table. Serve them in mini cups. I printed the clues on parchment paper sheets, cut them out, rolled them up, and tied them up with twine so they looked like vintage scrolls.
I used a star tip with my piping bag, but you can use a grass-tip. You can also use a rubber cake spatula to spread your icing carefully around your three-rex cake. Because I wanted the invitation to seem like it was from another time period, I needed the paper to look old and worn. We have a large framed chalkboard over our coffee bar that we made so it only seems fitting to me I create a new chalkboard design for the theme of the party.

It will save you a lot of money instead of buying a custom dinosaur birthday cake and it still looks super exciting for your three year old birthday boy or birthday girl.If you have many shades of food coloring to play with, try using one drop of yellow, one drop of blue, and one drop of brown to get the same shade of green you see in my photos.
