There’s plenty to explore, but it’s also a good place to take a break as there are lots of chairs, so pull one up and admire the fountains and magnificent Luxembourg Palace. For what it’s worth, we stayed here on our latest trip to Paris, and we enjoyed the central location, spacious room, and complimentary drinks and snacks (duh). Our philosophy when it comes to choosing a place to stay is to first choose the neighborhood, then move on to finding a great hotel, hostel, or apartment in that area. However, aside from these uncomfortable injuries, I am very healthy, so inspite of what some may consider to be ‘my advanced age, and although I still have not been able to schedule the dates for such a foray, I nonetheless hope I will, as yet, have the opportunity to spend (at least) a little time, visiting the ‘City of Light. If it’s your first time in Paris, our recommendation is that you stay either in the 7th Arrondissement at the feet of the Eiffel Tower, or in Le Marais, the heart of medieval Paris.

This charming fairytale neighborhood is situated on a hill overlooking Paris, so if you don’t want to walk, opt for taking the metro or paying for a taxi. The elegant boulevards, iconic architecture, beautiful parks, and delicious food really do make this a magical city and one we never tire of exploring.In fact, one of our favourite ways of touring Paris on a budget is on an open-top bus – although try to travel on the open-top bus outside of rush hour as the peak traffic in the city could result in you staring at the same building for upwards of 30 minutes. If you’re on a budget and looking for an affordable area, stay in the 9th Arrondissement, which is central and affordable with great nightlife. If it’s a special occasion, book a top-floor room for a spectacular view of Paris – there’s even one with an Eiffel Tower view. It is believed that Lutetia’s Roman Forum, the center of religious and civil life during the Roman times, was located at current rue Soufflot, while today’s rue Saint Jacques was one of the two main streets in Roman times. It was once the Jewish quarter of Paris and now boasts eclectic boutiques, restaurants, and is home to stunning architectural buildings around every corner.

This square is crossed by Rue Mouffetard, a street food where you can find everything from fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese, and wine.de la Cité is a picturesque little island in the Seine that’s home to the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral. They have studios, which is what we stayed in, along with larger apartments with more space, and each unit has a kitchen, washing machine, and a comfortable bed. Depending on where exactly you stay, there could be loud music and people out and about until the early hours of the morning, but honestly, it’s Paris. Anywhere within a couple of blocks of Sentier or Rue Montergueil at the north eastern end of the neighborhood (which is the furthest from the Seine, but oddly the most central feeling thanks to its proximity to Le Marais and Canal St.
