Overall, this was an excellent story about a young boy suffering through a horrible time in history. It certainly pulls at your heart strings, but I wouldn't quite call it life changing. This book comes off more like a deeply and darkly intense fable.

Once by Morris Gleitzman is the story of a young Jewish boy who is determined to escape the orphanage he lives in to save his Jewish parents from the Nazis in the occupied Poland of the Second World War. Everybody deserves to have something good in their life. At least Once. Once I escaped from am orphanage to find Mum and Dad. Once I saved a girl called Zelda from a burning house. One of the most heartbreaking things I found about the story (apart from the whole Holocaust thing, which obviously gets top spot) is the way Felix makes up stories in his head as a way of trying to explain away the awful things that are happening around him. It's just so sad. And his horror and bravery when he realises what's going on - you really forget that this is just a little kid. Moorhouse, Drusilla (August 3, 2012). I hate this book. I absolutely hate, hate, hate it. I hate that it broke my heart trampled on it, sent it through a shredder before using the remains to make a smoothie. I hate that I never heard of the book until Yr5 when my teacher brought it out. I hate that Felix is adorable and imaginative. I hate Zelda and her punchline, "Don't you know anything?". I hate myself. I hate that WW2 even happened. Emilie de Ravin as Belle French (seasons 2–6; recurring season 1; guest season 7) [17] [18] [19] [23] Whitney, Alyse (December 7, 2015). It took me to Poland for the first time. To the streets of Kazimierz, the ancient Jewish area of Krakow, and to the Jewish cemetery where I found a memorial with my family name on it. But I didn’t want the story to be too cosy and safe. I wanted to explore every part of friendship. To investigate how friendship survives in tough times. To see if friendship can be tough too. Gabo's dream is close to being realized, but now he is caught in a conflict between his love for Álamo Seco, his consolidation as a professional player and the Golden Falcons are in the World Cup because they have already won the continental tournament. If you want to reach the top of football, you will have to overcome these last obstacles that will put you between your past and your future.

K2 O’Hero is a seemingly ordinary boy – after all, he and his twin sister Izzabird have been sworn to keep their family’s magical history a secret. Not even their infuriating stepsiblings, Theo and Mabel, know that magic exists. They believe K2 to be the most hopeless person they have ever known. a b c Mitovich, Matt Webb (March 21, 2018). After all, everybody deserves to have something good in their life at least once. In the following books in the series, we journey with Felix throughout the war and in the aftermath, as he experiences huge losses and hopes for happiness. In the last two books - Now and Always- we meet Felix’s grandson as the elderly man faces up to his past.
