About this deal

Ensure there is a clear line of sight from the remote to the speakers. Aim the remote at the IR Receiver. Drive Units: 1×2x 25mm Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter, 1x 133mm aluminium concave cone mid/bass unit You can swap the L / R stereo output on TUK. This can be helpful in situations where you want to place your speakers correctly, or need to reach power outlets / inputs, ensuring correct stereo image in any configuration. The active speaker is set to the left channel by default. Active Crossover is disabled by default. You can activate Active Crossover by pressing and holding the SUB button for 5 seconds. The front panel LED will blink twice to indicate that the crossover has been activated. You can deactivate the crossover by pressing and holding the SUB button for 5 seconds. The front panel LED will blink once to indicate that the crossover has been deactivated. The crossover is disabled by default or when power is removed. Special Functions Automatic Power Up (APU) / Automatic Power Down (APD) The main accessory here is the remote. It’s an improved version of the remote control that came with the old YU6 speakers and we think it’s terrific. It gives you full control over your EQ, inputs, outputs, as well as volume. Although it’s made from simple plastic and silicon, we think it gets the job done. It’s certainly a significant improvement on remotes that come with more expensive speakers, like the aforementioned KEF LSX.

After you adjust the volume on the speakers, you should hear the audio from your TV being played through the speakers. If you hear noise, silence, or choppiness you may need to change the audio settings of the TV box, TV app, Blu-ray player, etc. as well. Follow a similar process to navigate to the audio settings of the device or app you are using and switch the audio mode to stereo or two channel. If you still do not hear any audio after making these changes, refer to the Audio Troubleshooting Guide. TUK supports data streams up to 24-bit / 96 kHz resolution via Optical Toslink. Connecting Bluetooth If "TUK by Kanto" cannot be found while searching for devices on the source, power-cycle the speaker by switching the Power Switch OFF then ON and try these steps again. While the speakers are in standby or OFF, plug one end of the optical cable into the TV and the other into the OPT input of TUK. Take note of the shape of the cable and port as you can only insert the cable in one orientation. A note for audiophiles: the amplifier contained in these speakers is a Class D amp. If you’re not an audiophile – and good for you, because audiophiles are boring and annoying – here’s what that means. Class D Amps have a bad reputation, with listeners claiming that they come off as harsh, and that there are issues matching amps and speakers. Obviously the second point is not a problem here, and as for the first? Get real. The prejudices against Class D amps are ridiculous, and are largely based on issues that the technology had when it was new in the 1980’s. We’ve had plenty of Class D amplifiers that we’ve loved, like the amazing NAD D3020 V2 ( full review here), and we certainly don’t consider it a problem with the TUK. To take issue with these speakers because the amplifier is of the wrong class is to be the worst kind of pedant. If you'd like the speakers to automatically power down while your smart home device is not in use you may want to enable the wake up sound on your smart home device. TUK takes several seconds to wake up when it detects audio. Enabling a wake up sound will give the speakers a head start before audio begins streaming from your smart home device. Refer to your smart home device's manual for instructions on how to enable the wake up sound. Connecting to a ComputerAs if the excellent sound quality wasn’t enough, the TUK speakers come with a rudimentary EQ. You can use the included remote to adjust the bass and treble. As handy as this is, and as much as we love having the option, it brings up an issue that hasn’t been fixed from other Kanto speakers, like the Kanto SYD ( full review here). It feels like it’s very hard to get any precision when adjusting the volume or the EQ. Each tap of the volume control results in a leap that’s larger than we would have liked; you’re going up an entire foot, as opposed to increasing the volume by inches.

If you do not find the APD feature useful, you can disable it by pressing the Bass Reset button on the remote and holding it for 5 seconds. The Input LED will blink once to indicate that you have disabled the APD feature. To enable APD if you have disabled it, simply press and hold the Bass Reset button again for 5 seconds. The Input LED will blink twice to indicate that you have enabled APD. Detail is perhaps ‘good plus’ rather than outstanding, but the loudspeaker goes instead for speed of delivery than sheer weight of information on offer. On balance, I like that position for the TUK, as it makes it all the more listenable, and I’d rather this sheer speed of delivery, than blandly listening to well-produced aural wallpaper replayed tiresomely, but with tireless detail.

Thank you for choosing TUK, a Canadian designed powered speaker system. TUK takes its name from Tuktoyaktuk, a remote hamlet on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. A place where the colorful dance of the Aurora Borealis offers a thrilling experience – one that we've sought to emulate with sound. Its wide range of connectivity makes it perfectly suited as both a near field and home audio solution.

Make sure the blue BT Input LED on the front panel of TUK is blinking rapidly, indicating the speakers are in pairing mode. If the BT Input LED is solidly lit, press the Bluetooth reset button on the remote to unpair a previously used device and enter pairing mode. Setup your smart home device using the manufacturer's instructions or app. Ensure it is working correctly before trying to connect it to TUK. And that is the big feather in the TUK’s cap, it’s a very well-balanced piece of engineering. It was clearly designed to play the long game; not so loud and shouty that it attracts people in the short-term and pushes them away in the long. A volume headroom that makes you think twice before playing too loud, yet is perfectly comfortable at low level listening, and an overall balance that is big and expansive without being too showy to make the more sensitive audiophiles on the planet run for cover. We recommend keeping a maximum distance of less than 10 meters (33 ft) between the speaker and your device. The best signal fidelity is within this range. Its active crossover further improves low-end resolution by filtering out sub-80Hz frequencies when connected to a subwoofer. APU / APD is always enabled by default. APU will only activate after APD has been triggered. APU will not work if the unit is manually switched to standby using the remote or control knob. Bass / Treble Memory (BTM) CONNECT YOUR VINYL: Instead of a single, switchable RCA input, TUK features separate phono and line-level inputs to provide uninterrupted access to its built-in phono preamp. Simply plug in any vintage or modern-day turntable to enjoy all your favorite records.
