A standalone crime thriller by the author of the DI Kelly Porter series Rachel Lynch. I really enjoy the DI Kelly Porter series and can’t wait for the next instalment but was interested to read this standalone thriller. This is just the start of a case that goes from bad to worse for Kelly as this was no accident and more and more questions begin to form and Kelly somehow has to get to the bottom of it all. The opening chapters of Sudden Death grabbed my attention straight away with a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood disaster movie. The sheer devastation was easy to visualise and definitely brought home the extremely difficult tasks faced by the emergency services in this part of the United Kingdom. Kudos to Rachel Lynch for starting the book in such a gripping fashion that really set the tone for what was to come.
I really enjoy reading police procedural series and the DI Kelly Porter is one of my favourites. This is the eleventh book in the series by author Rachel Lynch and once again it is a very enjoyable read. There is much more to this book than a helicopter crash and I was surprised to see where Kelly’s investigation led. Sudden Death has a multifaceted plot and shows us how criminals of all forms can be hiding in plain sight.

I enjoyed protagonist Major Helen Scott. She is intelligent and tough and very human as you learn about her personal life. Ms. Lynch does a great job of writing Grant Tennyson into the story as a male counterpart to Helen who does not take over as a savior or diminish Helen’s strength and talent. The past and current family interactions between Khalil and Fawaz add a depth to the story and to the international intrigue. The Rift by Rachel Lynch is a book that I jumped at the chance to read and review on the blog tour. I have previously read books by Rachel Lynch and know how good she is at her craft. What an absolutely brilliant book this was the action just never let up and it was a read that grabbed me right from the start ... amazing writing from Rachel Lynch. Silent Bones is a gripping crime thriller that takes place in the picturesque Lake District in the UK. The story revolves around DI Kelly Porter, a determined and tenacious detective who is investigating a mysterious case involving a skeleton found at the bottom of the Thirlmere reservoir during a drought.
Kelly was a good girl in school she stayed away from the cool kids, she kept her head down and did not rub people up the wrong way yet she remained approachable and knew when the cool kids went bad. I thoroughly enjoy Rachel Lynch’s DI Kelly Porter series so I was delighted to discover she was releasing this standalone thriller, The Rift. It was great to see what Rachel Lynch can do in addition to that series and she really hits the bullseye!
