About this deal

Best used for –Washing garments that are made out of a mixture of synthetic materials, such as polyamide and polyester. Overview –The cotton symbol is shown by a ball of cotton, and it’s a commonly used programme that you’ll use to wash your cotton-based garments. Overview –The eco wash setting on your Hoover machine uses a lower temperature than a standard wash cycle, so it uses less energy. It’s shown by an image of two leaves. Best used for –Washing sportswear or clothing made from synthetic fibres, like polyester and polyamide.

But what do you do when the symbols have rubbed off/worn off? You could read through the user manual, but if you’ve got no idea where yours has gone, this guide should teach you everything you need to know. There are two main washing machine symbols that you need to know about with any shooter washer – detergent and fabric softener, and fabric softener. Detergent and Fabric SoftenerThe test strip included (left to right) red wine, orange juice, ketchup, vegetable oil and gravy stains. On the 30ºC wash, the image below shows that stain removal was pretty good, although you can still see a clear outline of the red wine stain, plus a mark from the ketchup. It’s decent performance, but more expensive machines – such as the LG V9 F4V909BTS – clean better, albeit at a higher cost. The wash took just over two hours to complete. Overview – The allergy care symbol shows a plus sign inside a circle with a baby’s bottle and dummy. It washes the load at 60 degrees Celsius for 79 minutes to completely rid your clothing of allergens.

Every Hoover washing machine is slightly different, and different models will always have unique settings. However, several symbols are universal across all Hoover washing machines. This guide will discuss each of these universal symbols so you can make the most of your appliance and whizz through your laundry. Washing Machine Symbols Best used for –Removing allergenic particles, like pollen, dust, and pet fur, and bacterial particles from your garments. Available for a great price when you take into account the features on offer, the Hoover H-Wash 500 HWB 410AMC/1-80 is a top mid-range washing machine. Spend more on the likes of the Samsung WW9800T and you’ll get faster wash cycles and better stain removal at lower temperatures. However, you’ll spend a lot more for the privilege.Overview –The soft care symbol shows a butterfly with a box in its centre. It’s suitable for washing delicate garments and washes at 20 degrees Celsius for 59 minutes. Overview –The fresh care setting washes your clothing for 30 minutes at 30 degrees Celsius and uses steam. It’s shown by a symbol of a T-shirt with a puff of air to the side of it. Hoover’s app can still be useful. It provides access to a wider range of programmes, including special cycles designed for cleaning specific items: diving suits, face masks and bloodstains are just some that jump out. Plus, each programme is described in detail, which makes it a bit easier to understand.

Admittedly, this job will need to be done only once – and likely by the person who delivers the appliance – but less fiddly bolts would have been appreciated. Hoover washing machines have a one-year guarantee as standard. You must register your appliance with Hoover. Overview –If you spot a symbol that shows a ball of wool on your washer (if it’s not worn away yet), this is the setting that you’ll use to wash woollen laundry. We introduced a new test for washing machines in September 2022. Because this is a model tested before these changes came into effect, the score won't be directly comparable with the scores achieved by models published after. There’s also a dial position to turn on Wi-Fi, letting you connect the washing machine to the Hoover hOn app. It’s important to note that you can only use the app while the machine is set to Wi-Fi mode; if you use a different programme, you’ll lose the remote connection. This means that using the app requires you to programme the machine with the app. This is different to the way the Samsung WW9800T works; it lets you use the app at any point. For the most part, you’ll operate the Hoover H-Wash 500 HWB via the controls on the front of the machine. First, there’s the control dial that lets you select the wash programme; you’ll need to refer to the manual to find the right wash for each load. There are plenty of options to choose from, however, including modes for whites, wool, fitness gear and allergy care. Stain removal was better, too, with only the red wine and ketchup stains leaving behind a trace. You’d have to look closely to spot these stains on clothes, particularly on coloured items. To test the effectiveness of the Hoover H-Wash 500, I ran a few test washes to see how well it copes with stain removal. I started out with the white wash set to 30ºC, which used 0.57kWh of power and 41.7 litres of water – decent, but not the lowest I’ve seen.

There are some faster cycles you can run for lesser-soiled items, but the main programmes on this washing machine are quite slow. Overview – The fabric softener symbol denotes a flower. It may or may not have the word ‘MAX’ written next to it, which indicates the maximum amount of fabric softener that you should use per cycle. It’s a standard feature that you’ll find on pretty much every washing machine that you use. Overview –The baby 60 wash programme is denoted by an image of a baby’s bottle with a dummy. This programme sets the temperature to a minimum of 60 degrees Celsius to provide an extensive wash that removes bacteria and allergens from your baby’s clothing. Best used for – Washing clothes that are prone to creasing and those that you want to iron before putting away in your drawers and wardrobe. Overview –The symbol for mixed and synthetic garments shows a triangular container, and it’s another common setting across most Hoover washing machine models.Overview –The steam setting is denoted by a puff of steam and it blows steam intermittently into the washer drum during a cycle. The steam removes allergens and bacteria from your clothing. The H-WASH 500 is one of the most popular Hoover washer models, and it has a variety of special settings. All in One 59′ Best used for –Rinsing heavily soiled clothing and bedding before a full cycle or rinsing your garments. There are programme symbols on the front of every model of Hoover washing machine. These symbols enable you to identify which washing programme you’re using and adjust the settings according to your needs. Below are some of the standard programme symbols that you’ll find on a Hoover washer. Cotton
