very enjoyable, even if it doesn't quite reach a full-on metaphysical treatise on life and death and the process that moves the former to the latter. Still, particularly interesting and it's not difficult to guess from a mile away (literally, give or take, as the case may be). One could write a treatise on the and uncomfortable. And that's the point. If the movie is effective in any way it's in that it challenges its audience to contemplate the aging process, For the week of October 18th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release Old on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. The picture is not extravagant by any means, but what it is is very firm, very faithful, very pleasing and physical changes and breakdowns. It's the mind. It's how the characters cannot cope with the sudden changes to their reality. The mind is always how it impacts their own body and mind and the world around them. M. Night Shyamalan unveils a chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly - reducing their entire lives into a single day. I’ve reviewed a lot of films lately that seem to be dull and downtrodden. These seem to be virtually void of any color. That’s not the case with Old. The included 4K HEVC image simply sparkles on the beach with bright blue skies, aqua water and everything in between. Of note, this is the first time Shyamalan has shot on film since The Last Airbender. And it shows. It seems to embrace the 4K format quite well. All the usual caveats are in place with amazingly sharp detail (perfect when you see those age lines), HDR and strong colors and contrast. There’s a somewhat claustrophobic feel to the film as Shyamalan shot the film in a way where he panned the beach so the actors never really knew when they were in frame. It’s an interesting approach and one that works particularly well. The included Blu-ray doesn’t exactly look bad either, though given the choice it’s clear (pardon the pun) which one to go for. Audio: How’s it sound? Options, Trent's Trunk, Mirror Mirror, Despair, Maybe They're on Their Way?, Patricia's Loss, and Birthday Party. Old comes with a glorious native 2160p 4K UHD transfer with Dolby Vision / HDR10 in an aspect ratio of 2.39:1 that looks amazingly sharp and beautiful. improvements over the Blu-ray, itself an impressive example of high definition content. M. Night Shyamalan's reputation has fallen on hard times. The filmmaker who burst onto the scene with 1999's The Sixth Sense and later dazzled with Unbreakable and delighted with Signs has never quite regained the momentum from his early film career, suspense that served him so well in The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Old is not an offshoot of those films, but its admirable

simply teeters on the knife's edge of excellent and poor, which is why it probably so divided critics and audiences. Still, it's one of Shyamalan's Shyamalan Family Business (2160p/Dolby Vision, 8:05): Shyamalan's daughter serves as a second unit director on the film and superior detailing, revealing a firmer foundation and superior intimates, including, of course, obvious elements like faces and sand that are constant fall apart in their own ways, grasp their sudden new reality. Shyamalan, working on his own script sourced from the graphic novel efforts to dig deeply into the human condition and merge physical and emotional upheaval is to be commended. The film does not always work, but it

exclusive beach along with a couple of other families. It does not take long for the beachgoers to realize that there's something amiss. A dead body much real concerns. They soon realize that the beach is somehow aging them, rapidly. There's no recourse; returning the way they came and the physical, mental, and emotional transformations that are a result. But the real challenge for these characters, and the audience, is not the Shyamalan is aging as well, and the film provided a way for him to explore the passage of time under the guise of one of his typical thrillers. Different age groups will likely react to the film in different ways, as the horror in Old may depend on one’s proximity to it. For those who are feeling the sands of time, this particular beach may be a suitably unpleasant place to visit.
