About this deal

Proper no-nonsense advice for Dads-to-be! This isn't a story book, there's no anecdotes, funny asides or philosophical musings about the nature of existence, what it's like to be a father (spoiler, it's great) or any of that. When we were expecting I got given a more "fluffy" book with all of the above, got about halfway through it and binned it. Dress up is always a good one for younger troopers too. We’ve all got old clothes hidden in drawers or cupboards which to our troopers can seem like magical costumes, let them run wild and dress up! Clearly, it’s not an age-based activity as my teenaged troopers Sam and Jude still pinch my clothes now! I think the real problem here is how little we know about what is in our processed foods. I may not have a problem eating horse, but do I want to eat a horse that was killed six months ago in a country far, far away? No I do not. It doesn't pretend to be more than it is. it is a very direct "If you do this, everything should go well" manual. It doesn't pretend to have a philosophical intrigue that will unleash the parenting instinct within you. It's clear "you do this, everything ends up ok". Add to the meat and mix it all together. The best way to do this is with your hands, and kids love this bit as it’s so squishy. Do make sure hands are clean before and after.

Then I dashed down to the Lecture theatre, was man-handled by a sound technician trying to mike me up, and then went straight into the Getting Published Session. One word – BRILLIANT. I really enjoyed listening to the other panellists, having the opportunity to share some of my own experiences, and answering questions from the audience. As a PE teacher (and now as a supply teacher) I see countless notes excusing pupils from PE. Now while some of these are genuine, I’ve been in situations where nearly half of the pupils in the class have been excused from my lesson. My personal low was a pupil that handed me a note explaining he couldn’t do PE as he had lost his trainers. He was wearing them. But without the rest of his kit, and without the jurisdiction to override a note from home, nothing could be done. It's straight to the point. You don't get lost in useless text and reflections. No "comedic" side stories, or anything that will make you lose time. Greater Manchester Mental Health (NHS Foundation Trust) Provision of prioritized support during the perinatal period. Having a baby has the potential to cause an immense amount of strain on a couple. A chapter detailing the best practice for helping and looking after your partner would be great.

Just as in the army, he says, morale is key: "I have a whole chapter on morale. It's crucial. Don't be hard on yourself. We all have bad days. Just because you make a mistake, doesn't mean you're a bad parent. And above all, don't be afraid to ask for help. You're never on your own, and you're no less of a dad – or a man – if you ask for help." Other top tips? "The golden rules," he says, "start from the fact that a commando dad is a hands-on dad. He gets involved, he takes his responsibilities seriously. He's engaged, he spends time with his kids, caring for them – and he gets the information he needs to do it. What's more, he knows that his sole and undivided attention is the most engaging entertainment tool at his disposal. He will always act in the best interests of his troopers." NHS Choices – includes keeping well in pregnancy, antenatal care and baby’s development, vaccinations in pregnancy through to labour and birth, your new baby, feeding, teething and tantrums.

After a long period of radio silence, we have recruited one of our troopers to take the reins as our social media man, trooper Samuel Sinclair! On the spring of my twelve, Mom got me again new lederhosen , the previous ones I had before in primary school being too small. They were now mostly for home and leisure time.

With trooper Sam at the social media helm you can expect a lot more coming your way. Watch this space for regular blogposts from the Commando Dad HQ. Hopefully the mixed up feelings have subsided now and you can think clearly againwith a sense of perspective. It was a relief, that the guests were dressed in a similar exhibitionist way as we were. There were a few stage shows, and after one hour half of the participants were almost naked having sex everywhere. There are many things your troopers can get up to in their household. Children, being naturally creative, can make fun out of most things so here are a few ideas for entertainment you can provide without even having to leave your home.

And how do I know such detailed information? Characteristically of those who served in the war, granddad never really spoke about it. In 2004 though, to mark the 60 th Anniversary of D-Day, my granddad’s old employer, the Guernsey Press, wrote an article about him. He sent a copy to each of his daughters (my mum Ann and my auntie Barbara) and across the top he wrote “thought you might like to see this.” I am holding that paper in my hands now granddad and I just want to say a sincere thank you to you – and all of those involved on that day. You changed the world. It may be couched in unfamiliar language, but this is all sound common sense. And even the most pacifist-minded of dads can see that the military metaphor works surprisingly (and entertainingly) well. And of course, participation in sport is not just about creating Olympians. Sport can give you so many benefits in both the short, and long, term. Not only will it make troopers physically fit, but also give them a sense of belonging, teach them how to work well in a group and individually and hopefully also be a lot of fun. And the lessons that sport teaches you can help you in whatever career you troopers decide upon. Ray Winstone, a former boxer, said in a recent article in Men’s Fitness: “Boxing helped me mentally. I’ve bought that discipline and determination to acting.” It's 'Right, gentlemen, today's lesson is ... burping baby,'" Sinclair says. "'For this task, you will need equipment A and B. The core skills you require are X and Y. Here are the key dos and donts. And then: fall out, commando dads.'"
