About this deal

Today there are several memorials in Saltdal connected with the Blood Road and other events during the Second World War. There is also a Blood Road Museum in Saltdal documenting the events.

When the Wehrmacht took over management of the Botn camp in October 1943, the conditions gradually improved. The conditions further improved when the Red Cross learned of the camps and several inspections were conducted. The two camps in Botn were so poorly built that the snow made its way into the prisoners' beds. The daily rations were very small, and a former prisoner described the food supplies as follows: Typically four or five men shared one loaf of bread, 50 men shared .5 kilograms (1.1lb) of margarine, and 100 men shared 1 kilogram (2.2lb) of sausages. Each man received 0.5 liters (17U.S.floz) of soup a day. [10] :55 The labor shifts were 14 hours long. [12] :31 Sanitation was extremely inadequate; the prisoners fetched washing and drinking water from open ditches in the camp. Outflow from the toilets often entered the channels. [4] :11 Kaufman, Debra (2017-07-06). "Shooting Blood Road in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in 6K with the Red Weapon and Epic". Studio Daily . Retrieved 2020-04-12.A prisoner who buried the bodies told the Norwegian guard that around 77 prisoners were shot, and that their ages ranged from around 12 to 70 years. The corpses lay at one end of the grave. They were covered with only a thin layer of soil because more new prisoners were buried every day. The German SS guards said that the detainees were ill and were being executed to avoid infection. The Norwegian guard himself thought that the reason was that they were so starved that they had no strength to work. [11] :41 Great cinematography, really realistic and beautiful through the production team's camera. A seamless, also perfect editing, Offering both a personal and historical exploration of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, this book highlights the critical role the Trail and the young women soldiers who helped build and defend it played in the Vietnam War. Accompanied by two traveling companions, Sherry Buchanan winds her way from Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, in the south. Driving through the spectacular scenery of Vietnam and Laos, she encounters locations from the Truong Son mountains, the Phong Nha Caves, ancient citadels, and Confucian temples to the Khmer Temple of Wat Phu at the western-most point of the Trail in Laos. The Russian prisoners who were released were either executed upon arrival in Murmansk, or were sent to NKVD filtration camps because, under the Soviet penal code, they were under suspicion for having allowed themselves to be taken prisoner. [4] :20 Trials [ edit ] This particular tale made me both laugh and cry, nobody messes with the emotional core of the reader quite like this author and he does it seemingly effortlessly.

I have two vastly different, but enduring memories of the Ho Chi Minh trail. Firstly, as an Air Force fighter pilot bombing the trail, and 31 years later, as the first post-war U.S. ambassador to Vietnam frequently travelling along its length while engaging in bilateral diplomacy. Consequently, in reading Sherry Buchanan’s meticulously researched, stimulating and beautifully written On the Ho Chi Minh Trail, I felt like I was on the journey with her. The book is an exceptional travel log; the reader gets a superb geography lesson; a narrowly focused history of the trail during the war; and an introduction into Vietnam’s unique artistic and cultural identity including a primer on some of its exceptional cuisine. But above all, the author’s trip companion’s commentary and the heart-wrenching stories of the people (especially the women) they met along the way are what makes this book an absolute gem.Their remarkable stories of survival and sacrifice along with their remembrance of the hundreds of thousands who did not survive along the Trail will keep readers spell bound.” Disgusting who puts vinegar on to macaroni & cheese Logan that's who, sounds nealy as bad as gravy on chips vomit food. A man living near the Botn camp stated: "I remember that among the Norwegian guards there was a very good man, who helped the prisoners with news and food, and who did not force them to work. But the Germans found out, and he suddenly vanished." [12] :96I love this series so much. Actually I've loved all this authors books but there's a special love involved in one featuring Logan and Steele for many many reasons... After the liberation, 356 bodies of Yugoslav prisoners from the Botn camp were found. [11] :46 A war cemetery was created for those in Botn with 1,657 dead, of which 1,027 are unknown prisoners of war. [4] :21 In September 1954, a memorial was unveiled; a delegation from Yugoslavia was present at the ceremony, including three former prisoners. Norwegian authorities were also present, including Major General Arne Dagfin Dahl. [11] :46 Close to the Yugoslav cemetery there is also a large cemetery for German soldiers. a b "Rapp, Ole Magnus. 2012. Noen av krigens grusomme dødsleirer var på norsk jord. Aftenposten (November 16)". Archived from the original on 2016-04-12 . Retrieved 2016-12-12. The Blood Road was a road section northeast of Rognan in the municipality of Saltdal. The road was a new section of Norwegian National Road 50 between Rognan and Langset on the east side of Saltdal Fjord, where there was a ferry connection before the war. [9] :46 The Blood Road itself now corresponds to a section of today's European route E6 between Saltnes and Saksenvik. [4] :24 The prisoners that built the road belonged to the Botn camp. I love reading books in the Logan McRae series and The Blood Road was another fantastic attention to this fantastic series. Stuart MacBride knows how to make me laugh and engaged with the characters and the plot of The Blood Road. I like Stuart MacBride portrayal of his characters and they way they interacted with each other throughout The Blood Road. The Blood Road is well written and researched by Stuart MacBride. The settings of The Blood Road was well done by Stuart MacBride which help me to feel that I live in Aberdeen.
