a b Michael Alison Chandler (29 January 2010). "School system in Va. won't teach version of Anne Frank book". The Washington Post. Mitgang, Herbert (8 June 1989). "An Authenticated Edition of Anne Frank's Diary". The New York Times . Retrieved 1 August 2021. Bythell writes with biting humor . . . [He] is a man on a mission, and a year seen through his eyes convinces the reader that it is a mission worthy of undertaking.” — THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

In 1989, an English edition of this appeared under the title of The Diary of Anne Frank: The Revised Critical Edition, including Mooyaart-Doubleday's translation and Anne Frank's versions A and B, based on the Dutch critical version of 1986. [38] [39] A new translation by Susan Massotty, based on the original texts, was published in 1995.Frank, Anne, and Netherlands State Institute for War Documentation (2003) [1989]. An Obsession with Anne Frank: Meyer Levin and the Diary, Lawrence Graver. University of California Press, 1995. [ ISBNmissing] Shaun Bythell kept a one year diary covering his book shop - and also his life and the lives of some of those around him. It's a very entertaining read, though I wish that he had given more ink to some of the more pleasant experiences that probably occurred in his shop. (I'm sure that there must have been more than he related.) The more bizarre or annoying experiences made good reading, but more positive experiences would have made for a better balanced book. Mr. Bythell seems to be a bit of a curmudgeon, so perhaps that accounts for many of the episodes he included. Faurisson, Robert (1982), "Is The Diary of Anne Frank genuine?", The Journal of Historical Review, 3 (2): 147 Enter Shaun Bythell, owner and proprietor of The Bookshop in Wigtown (Scotland’s largest secondhand bookstore), who willingly accepts the economic challenges of owning a used bookshop, a challenge exacerbated by the shop’s location in a relatively unknown region of Scotland, in exchange for the freedom to be his own boss and respond to the occasionally stupid customer with just the right level of subtle snark. You’ll be amazed at how many customers try to haggle over prices. It’s a shop, not a rummage sale, for goodness’ sake! I can’t imagine ever having the cheek to offer less than the advertised price.

Curious facts abound in this book: who would have guessed that customers who ask about Bibles never actually buy them? Or that first editions aren’t usually that valuable? Or that a discussion of the net book agreement could be anything other than deadly dull? Bythell is a true believer, who makes a passionate case for the importance of books – real, paper-and-board books, yellowed by time and handled, smudged and annotated by generations. This is, after all, a man who shot a Kindle and wall-mounted it – and after reading his wonderfully entertaining book, I’m just about ready to follow suit. Jones, Judith (2008). The Tenth Muse: My Life in Food. Knopf Doubleday Publishing. p.Chapter: Paris for Keeps. ISBN 978-0307498250 . Retrieved 8 June 2022. The first German film version of the diary, written by Fred Breinersdorfer, was released by NBCUniversal in 2016. The film is derived from the 2014 Dutch stage production. a b "Anne Frank's diary published online despite rights dispute, as 70 years since her death passes". ABC. 2 January 2016 . Retrieved 8 January 2016. December is by far the quietest month. (“The few people who give second-hand books as gifts for Christmas are usually eccentric” – count me as one of them!)

Of course, one person’s good book is another person’s bad book; the matter is entirely subjective.” In 2013, a similar controversy arose in a 7th grade setting in Northville, Michigan, focusing on explicit passages about sexuality. [72] The mother behind the formal complaint referred to portions of the book as "pretty pornographic." [73] filmed as Laatste Zeven Maanden van Anne Frank (English title: The Last Seven Months of Anne Frank) in 1988, directed by Willy Lindwer. Charming, darkly comic memoir…Warm, witty and laugh-out-loud funny, this gently meandering tale of British eccentricity will stay long in the memory. –Daily Mail

Kitty became so idealized and started to lead her own life in the diary that it ceases to matter who is meant by 'Kitty'. The name ... is not meant to be me. [28] Book Readers are intelligent, knowledgeable, appreciate and support their local bookshop. And as you are reading this right now you would agree.
