About this deal

We have two sets of instructions below showing you how to oil a worktop; the first talks about how to oil a new kitchen worktop, and beneath that are instructions on how to restore and oil a used worktop. Oiling new wooden worktops When it comes to choosing a specific oil, it mostly comes down to the environment the item is being used on and how you want the finished article to look. If you want to give the wood a polished, high shine look, you can polish the wood using our Beeswax Polish. Maintenance Using a de-nibbing pad lightly sand the surface to remove any imperfections in the finish. This will help create a smoother finish. Not all oils are appropriate for wooden kitchen worktops, mainly because they are not food safe or do not seal the timber effectively. So, we have put a handy list together below, which sets out what you should be looking for:

Step 3: Apply the Worktop Oil. Once the surface has been cleaned and prepared, follow the steps at the top of this section under ‘new worktops’. Mirka Mirlon Denibbing pads are a cost effective, and economical alternative to steel wool (they are sometimes referred to as synthetic steel wool), abrasive cloth and abrasive papers. The fine grits are excellent for applying wax. If the wood is heavily scratched or has a very tough finish then you can use coarser grades of paper first. But the key is to then work your way up through the grades to create the ideal finish. So if you needed to use p120 to sand out some scratches, you’d then use p240 to make it smoother, and then the fine pad (p320) to finish it off.We would also recommend that you use a separate chopping board rather than cutting products directly on the worktop surface and use a heat pad or trivet when placing hot items on the surface. How Often Do You Oil a Wooden Worktop? Our Danish Oil is a unique blend of natural oils and resins that penetrate deep into the oak and dry to provide a hard, durable, and lustrous satin finish, making it suitable for high use areas such as flooring, dining tables and kitchen worktops. For everyday cleaning, use our Wood Cleaner mixed in a ratio of 4:1 with water (4-parts water, to 1-part Wood Cleaner). Simply dampen a cloth with the solution and wipe down the surface.

After each coat has dried, gently sand the surface with the De-Nibbing Pad to create a perfectly smooth finish. Step 4 – The final coat A. No, the kit is designed to apply an oil finish to wood. If you also want to stain the wood to a different colour, you can either use our Wood Stain, or our Wood Stain Kit. Many solid wood worktop manufacturers do not recommend the use of multi-purpose cleaning products that contain chemicals which may damage worktops. Our Wood Cleaner has been specifically designed to deep clean all wooden surfaces and to remove heavy soiling and stubborn stains, but can also be diluted to be used as an everyday worktop cleaner to gently cleanse without causing damage. When diluted, the cleaner makes 2.5 Litres of cleaner for your worktops. Worktop Oil Manns Flexible Sanding Pads, I’ll be using one in p180. Just work across your project working with the grain, applying just enough pressure to smooth it out the finish. Because you are roughing up the surface as well it’ll improve the adhesion of any further coats too. Also once you’ve finished denibbing, give the area a wipe over with a Manns Microfibre Cloth as well. Danish Oil is also completely non-toxic and food safe when dry, making it perfect for finishing children’s furniture and toys too. Wood Finishing Oilshere, and I’m going to use it to show you how to denib oils. Wood is a naturally porous material, and when you put oils on wood, they soak in, giving excellent liquid repellency and protection while still maintaining a natural look and feel. When you apply an oil on you want to remove all excess as soon as you can, and then you want to help open some of those pores again by denibbing, use a Manns Finishing Pads to do this. Denib just like I did with the varnish, follow the grain work across the With its cordless micro-sanding and micro-polishing tools, advanced abrasives, pads, cloths and liquid polishes, our Perfect-It™ Denibbing System brings small area repair to your auto body operation. It's another way that 3M uses solid science to change the way collision repair technicians prepare painted surfaces, and to revolutionize paint shop productivity. A Foam Brush absorbs the product and allows you to liberally and evenly distribute the oil on to the surface of the wood. There are also multiple sizes available, so that you can apply oil to all those hard-to-reach areas on any wooden item. Denibbing is a really important step in applying any finish, it helps either the adhesion or absorption of further coats and can make a real difference to your projects. Denibbing Video Transcript
